Penang Botanical Gardens

The Penang Botanical Gardens, more commonly referred to as Botanic
Gardens, is a well landscaped tourist spot that is home to a wide array of
indigenous and exotic plant species. It was set up by Charles Curtis, a British
national in 1884. It is divided into 12 sections which are the Formal Garden,
Lily Pond, Perdana Palnt House, Tropical Rainforest Jungle Track, Fern House,
Fern Rockery, Aroid Walkaway, Cactus House, Orchidarium, Horticulture
Centre, Nursery and Quarry Recreational Park.
Some of the flora there includes the cannonball tree, sengkuang tree,
pinang palm, black lily, slipper orchids and more. There are two added
attractions that tourists enjoy: a waterfall where families usually gather to
have picnics and a path that leads up to Penang Hill. A walk up the hill from
the Gardens normally takes about sixty minutes. Along the way, you will spot
macaques and other animals such as dusky leaf monkeys, black giant
squirrels and a myriad of insects and butterflies. The gardens, located at Jalan
Kebun Bunga, about 8 kilometres away from Georgetown are open daily from
