GURU-SHISHYA PARAMPARA, the teacher - disciple

lineage, in our country is one of the most respected systems
world-wide. Gurus role is directive and interactive. Guru
helps a student to construct knowledge rather than reproduce.
This excellent and unique system of Guru-Shishya tradition,
lineage or PARAMPARA has been successfully working in
our Carnatic music, proof being a succession of teachers
and disciples. We have had this rich tradition from Musiri,
GNB, Chembai, Semmangudi and MLV schools and has now
percolated to the new generation of vidwans who
painstakingly teach the students in order to keep up this
PARAMPARA.
This PARAMPARA in Carnatic music has been universally
appreciated since at advanced stages of learning, GURUSHISHYA PARAMPARA becomes learning on one-to-one
basis.This system,
acclaimed worldwide,
has been an effective
medium to preserve our
rich culture and
heritage.
We, at APT, consider
this as very sacred and
holy. With this view, we
wish to encourage
SHISHYAs by giving them opportunities to perform.
With this initiative, this year, we present PARAMPARA 2015
a six day event organised from 1st of Nov. to the 6th of Nov.
at Arkay Convention Hall, Mylapore, Chennai. Details of
daily concerts are given at the respective Shishyas page
