NCLEX Cheat Sheet

This document provides tips for answering different types of NCLEX questions. It recommends using the nursing process to determine the next step for questions asking what a nurse should do first. For questions about a patient's most urgent need, it advises using Maslow's hierarchy of needs where airway, breathing and circulation needs come before psychosocial needs. Questions about a patient's most non-urgent need will always relate to safety. Multiple select questions should be treated as a series of true/false questions by evaluating each option individually.

Select ALL That Apply??

-

These are just a series of true/false questions!

Read question stem carefully before looking @ options! Is this patient

normal or abnormal?

Read options one at a time, and determine if the answer is true or false.
Eliminate the false answers.

Consider each remaining option. Just because an answer is true

doesnt mean it relates to the question! If a question asks about
interventions, but the action in the answer involves assessment, this answer
is wrong.

Avoid answers with absolutes: ALWAYS, NEVER, MUST. Nursing is not black
and white, neither should your correct answers be.

Select the options that correctly answer the question! There will always
be at least 2 correct options for Select All That Apply.
