1.The1st,istoobservewhatitisthatmovesapersontoproposeoraska
questionofanAstrologerwherewemusttakenoticeofthreemotions:
theFirst,ofthemind,whenamanisstirredupinhisthoughtsandbathan
intenttoenquireaSecond,ofthesuperiourandcelestialbodiessothat
theyatthattimeimprintonthethingenquiredafter,whatshallbecomeof
ittheThird,ofthefreewillwhichdisposeshimtotheveryactof
enquiringforalthoughthemindbemovedtoenquire,'tisnotenough
unlessthesuperiourbodiessympathizetherewithnorissuchmotionof
thestarsenough,unlessbytheelectionofhiswillthepersondoesactually
enquire.
2.The2ndconsiderationis(whatwehintedatbefore)themethodor
mannereveryoneoughttoobservethatenquiresofanAstrologerwhich
is,thatwhenheintendstotakeanartist'sjudgmentofthingspast,present,
ortocome,heshould,first,withadevoutspirit,prayuntotheLord,from
whomproceedsthesuccessofeverylawfulenterprise,thathewouldgrant
himtheknowledgeofthosethingsofthetruthofwhichhewouldbe
resolvedandthenlethimapplyhimselftotheastrologerwithaserious
intentofbeingsatisfiedinsomecertainandparticulardoubt,andthisnot
ontriflingoccasions,orlightsuddenemotions,muchlessonmattersbase
orunlawful,asmanyignorantpeopleusedtodobutinmattersofhonest
importance,andsuchashavepossessedanddisturbedhismindforthe
spaceofadayandnightorlongerunlessinsuddenaccidentswhich
admitnotofdelay.****NotebyLilly.Thosethattakethissober
course,shallfindthetruthinwhattheyenquireafterbutwhosoeverdo
otherwise,deceiveboththemselvesandtheartistforafoolishQuerentmaycauseawiseRespondenttoerr,whichbringsa
scandaluponArtamongstinconsiderablepeople,whereastheAstrologerisnotblameable,buttheignorantsillyQuerent.
3.The3rd,istoconsiderhowmanywaysPlanetsoperateuponInferiousBodiesaccordingtothediversQualitiesoftheir
motions:therebeingSixteendifferentwaysofsuchtheiroperationsandeffectsinallthingsthatareeitherwhollyorinpart
perfectedordestroyed.
4.The4th,istoconsiderparticularlytheseseveralSixteenways,andwhataretheassistingcausesthathelpforwardthingsto
perfection,andwhattherearethatdestroythingsaftertheyareperfected.Nowofthesethefirst(1)isProfection,oran
advanceoforin,things,whichthephilosopherscall'Alchecohol.'2.Detriment,whichtheycall'Aliber.'3.Conjunctionor
Reversion,whichtheycall'Alitifall.'4.Separation,whichtheycall'Alnichirat.'5.Translationoflight,whichtheycall
'Annecad.'6.Collection,whichtheycall'Algemei.'7.Probition,whichtheycall'Almana.'8.Reception,called'Alcobol.'9.
Beingvoidofcourse,called'Gastalcobal.'10.Permission,called'Galealocir.'11.Therestoringorgivingofvirtueor

5.The5th,istoconsider,howmanywaystheMooncomestobesoillaffected,whicharegenerallyreckonedtobeTen,but
inmyopinionSevenmoremaybeadded,wherebyhindrancesanddamagehappeninallQuestions,Nativities,Elections,and
actionswhatsoever
theFirstis,wheretheMooniscombust,thatistosayundertheSun'sBeams,whichiscountedfrom15degreesofthebodyof
theSunassheappliestohimto12degreesdistancefromhimassheisseparatingfromhimandtheimpedimentisgreater
whensheisgoingtotheSunthanwhensheisgoingfromhimbecauseasshegoesoff,whensheisgotfivedegreesdistant,
sheissaidtobeescaped,thoughnotwhollyfreed.Aswhenafeverhathleftaman,heissaidtoberecovered,althoughhebe
weakandfaint,becauseheissecurenowthatheshallobtainhishealthagain.
The2ndiswhensheisinthedegreesofherdescensions,thatisinthe3rddegreeofScorpio,orinanypartofScorpioor
Capricornorinjoinedwithanyplanetthatisinheroritsowndescensions,asifshebejoinedwiththeSun,whoisinScorpio
orCapricornorinanypartofScorpioorCapricornorinjoinedwithanyplanetthatisinheroritsowndescensions,asifshe
bejoinedwiththeSun,whoisinScorpioorCapricornorinhisproperdescension,viz.,inAquaryorLibra,viz.,inits19th
degreeorinanypartofLibraorshouldbejoinedwiththeMars,andhebeinLibraorTaurus,orinthe28thdegree,orinany
partofCancerandsowithanyotherPlanetorPlanetsrespectively.
The3rdiswhensheispositedinanyofthecombustdegrees,ofwhichtheworstare:those12degreeswhicharebeforethe
degreewhichisdirectlyoppositetothedegreeinwhichtheSunis,whereversheshallhappentobe,

The4thiswhensheisinconjunction,opposition,orsquaretoeitheroftheInfortunes,SaturnorMars,withoutaperfect
receptionforwithoneithindersbutlittle,butinallotherplaces'tisagrandimpediment,bothinthesaidaspectandalsoin
corporalconjunctionsaveonlywheretheInfortuneshallhavetwoofhissmallerdignities,aswithSaturninthe4lastdegrees
ofAriesorGemini,ineachofwhichhehasaTermandaTriplicityorwithMarsinthelast10degreesofPisces,wherehe
hasaFaceandaTriplicityandsoinanyothersignorplace.
The5thiswhensheiswiththeDragon'sHeadorwiththeDragon'sTail,thatis,withintwelvedegreesofeitherofthem,
becausethatistheplacewheresheiseclipsed.
The6thiswhensheisinGemini,whichisthetwelfthfromherownHouse.
The7thiswhensheisintheendoftheSigns,whichareallTermsoftheInfortunes,exceptthelast6degreesofLeo,which
belongtoJupiterbutinthefirsteightsheisweakenedbecausetheyareintheTermsofSaturn.Ifitbeobjectedbythesame
reasonshemustbeimpeditedlikewiseinthefirst6degreesofCancer,sincetheyaretermsofMars,Ianswerno,because
CancerisherownHouseandgreatestFortitude.
The8thiswhensheisinthe6th,8th9thor12thHouses(notinreceptionwiththeAscendant),orjoinedtoanyPlanetthatis
inanyofthemorpositedintheThirdHouse,becauseitiscadentfromanglesyetbecausethesameissaidtobeherjoy(or
thatshedelightstherein),sheisnotafflictedtheresomuchasinotherCadentHouses.
The9thiswhensheisbetweenthe15thdegreeofLibraandthe15thdegreeofScorpio,which30degreesarecalledCombust
Way.
The10thwhensheisvoydofcourse,thatis,notjoinedtoanyplanetbybodyoraspect,orinthatconditionwhentheycallher
FeralorDesart,thatis,inaplacewhereshehasnotanydignity.
The11thwhensheisslowofcourse,becausethenshemaybecomparedtoaPlanetRetrograde.
The12thwhensheisinwantoflight,sothatnopartorverylittleofherisseen,whichhappensabouttheendofthelunar
month.
The13thwhensheisbesiegedbythetwoInfortunesimpeditingher.
The14thifshebeinAzimenedegrees.
The15thifinPitteddegrees.
The16thifinSmokyDegrees.
The17thandlastiswhensheispositedinthosedegreeswhicharecalledDark.
ToknowanddistinguishallwhichyouhaveTablescommonlyinmostBooksofAstrologie.
6.The6thConsideration,Istoregardanothermannerwherebyplanetsaredebilitatedorweakenedandafflicted,notmuch
differentfromtheformer,whichcomestopassTenways.
The1stwhenaplanetisCadentfromAnglesorfromtheAscendent,sothathedoesnotbeholdthesame.
The2ndwhenthePlanetisRetrograde.
The3rdiftheybecombust,thatis,within15degreesbeforeoraftertheSunthelowerPlanetsaremoredebilitated,being
behindtheSun,andthelessbeforehim,whentheyaredirectbutwhenretrogradethecontrary.
4thWhenanyofthemisinOpposition,CorporalConjunction,orSquareofeitherorboththeInfortuneswithoutReception.
5thwhenanyofthemarebesiegedbytheInfortunes,soastoseparatefromoneandbejoinedtoanother,withoutperfect
receptionofHouse,Exaltation,ortwoofthesmallerDignities,whichareTerm,TriplicityandFace.
6thwhenaPlanetisjoinedtoanotherinhisDeclensionorFall,thatis,inOppositiontoitsownHouseorExaltation.
7thwhenitisjoinedtoaPlanetCadentfromtheAscendent,orseparatesfromaPlanetthatdiddeceivehim,andisjoinedto
anotherthatdothnot.

8thwhenaPlanetisPeregrine,thatis,inaplacewherehebathnotanyDignity:orbeingoneoftheSuperioursisfollowedby
theSun,orbeingoftheInferiourswhenitfollowstheSun.
9thwhenaPlanetiswiththeHeadorTailoftheDragon,withoutLatitude.
10thwhenaplanetweakensitself,thatit,whenitisintheseventhhousefromitsown,feral,ornotinReception.
ThesearetheImpedimentsofthePlanets,thatcauseHindrances,delays,andmischiefsinNativities,Questions,Elections,
etc.:allwhichthououghtesttobewellacquaintedwith.Therearesomemorethatseemnecessarytobeknown,buttoavoid
tediousnessandconfusionIshallatpresentomitthem.
7.The7thConsideration,istobewareofthosecaseswhereintheAstrologerissubjecttoerrandmistakeofwhichthe
learnedhavenamedfour:
1stWhentheQuerentissosillythatheknowsnothowtoask,norwhathewouldhave.
2ndWhenthetimeforwhichthefigureiserectedismistaken.
3rdWhentheArtistknowsnotwhethertheSunbegoneoffthelineoftheMidHeaven,orstilluponit:orbebehindorbefore
it.
4thWhentheFortunesandInfortunesshallbeofequalstrengthatwhichtimethouthereforeoughtestnottoreceiveany
question.But,inmyopinion,therematwellbeaddedyetthreewaysmore,whereintheAstrologerwillsubjecttoerr:
WhentheQuerentcomesonlytotryhim,orputatrickuponhim,asmanydo,saying,'LetusgotosuchanAstrologer,and
askhimsuchathing,andseeifhecantellusthetruthornot.'JustastheJewspropoundedquestionstoourLordJesusChrist,
notsomuchtoberesolved,astotemptandensnareHim.
2ndWhereintheArtistwillbeliabletoerr,iswhentheQuerentdoesnotaskoutofaseriousorsettledintention,assomedo
whentheymeetanAstrologerbychanceorgotohimonotherbusiness:onasuddentheythinkofsomething,andsoask,asit
werebythebyewherein'tisathousandtoonebutmistakeshappen.Butthoumayestbereadytosay,'HowshallIknow
whethertheQuerentcomeoutofasolidintention,oronlytotryme?'TowhichIanswer,thatitseemsaveryabstruseand
difficultpoint,perfectlytofindoutbutthisIhaveoftenexperiencedandfoundtrue,viz.,IobservedthehouroftheQuestion,
andiftheAscendantthenhappenedveryneartheendofonesignandbeginningofanother,sothatitseemedasbetweenboth
Isaidtheydidnotaskseriously,orthattheycametotrymeandIhavehadmanythathavethereuponconfessedwhatIsaid
tobetrue,andbegantothinkthatIknewmorethanbeforetheybelieved.ForinsuchcasesIusedtosay,'Pray,friend,donot
troublemeunlessyouaskseriously,forIsuspectthatyouwouldputatrickuponme,bynotproposingthisQuestionasyou
ought:however,ifyouwillgivemetroubleforyourpleasure,bepleasedtogivemelikewisesatisfactionformypains'and
immediately,iftherewereanddeceitintended,awaytheywent.
Another,viz.,awaywherebyanAstrologermayerr,iswhentheLordoftheAscendentandtheLordoftheHourarenotthe
same,norofthesameTriplicity,orbenotofthesamecomplexionwiththeAscendantforthentheQuestionisnotRadical,
asIhavefrequentlyfoundbyexperience.
AndthisIhaverecited,thatthoumay'stknowforwhatpersonsthoushouldstundertaketogivejudgmentforasonesays,
"TheissueofthethingisaccordingtothesolicitudeoftheQuerent,andashecomesinnecessity,assad,thoughtful,and
hoping,thatthouartableandknowesthowtosatisfyhimthetruthofthematterandinsuchcasesthoumay'stsecurely
ventureuponthequestion."
8.The8thConsiderationis,tomindhowmanyoftheaforesaidmannersorpointsnecessarytobeusedandheededingiving
JudgmentsthouhasttoconsiderandtheyareThirty,thatistosay,sixteenimpedimentsoftheMoon,tenoftheotherPlanets
ashathbeensaid,andbesidesallthosethePlanets'severaljoys,whicharefour.
Ofwhichthe1stistheHousewhicheachPlanetdoesdelightin,asMercuryintheAscendant,theMoonintheThird,Venus
inthefifth,Marsinthesixth,theSunintheninth,Jupiterintheeleventh,SaturnintheTwelfth.
The2ndis,whenaPlanetisinasignhedelightsin,asSaturninAquarius,JupiterinSagittary,MarsinScorpio,SolinLeo,
VenusinTaurus,MercuryinVirgo,andtheMooninCancer.
The3rdiswhenDiurnalPlanets,asSaturn,Jupiter,Sol,andMercury,areinDiurnalHousesintheEastandOrientalofthe
SunneartheHoroscopeandtheNocturnalPlanets,asMars,Venus,LunaandMercury,areinNocturnalHousesintheWest
andOccidentaloftheSunespeciallynearthecuspoftheseventh.
ThefourthiswhenthethreeSuperiors,Saturn,JupiterorMars,areinMasculineQuarterswhicharecountedfromthecuspof

theTenthHousetothecuspoftheAscendant,andfromthecuspofthefourthhousetothecuspoftheseventhhouseand
whentheFeminines,viz.,VenusortheMoonareinFeminineQuarters,whicharefromthecuspoftheAscendanttothecusp
ofthefourthhouseandfromthecuspoftheseventhtothecuspofthetenth.AsforMercury,hedelightswhenwith
MasculinePlanetsinMasculineQuarters,butwithFemininePlanetsinFeminine.
9.The9thConsiderationistotakenoticeoftheseveralways,aswellsecretasmanifest,goodandevil,wherebythingsare
helpedorhinderedtobedoneornotdone,andofthesethereareoneandtwentyinnumber.

Allwhichweshalltreatparticularly,thesamebeingasecretofsecrets.InthejudicialpartofAstrologywhichtheancientsdid
notregard,norhavesaidanythingplainlyofitthatIfind,saveonlythat'Haly'seemstohavetouchedalittleuponitinhis
Expositionofthe23rdofPtolemy'sCentiloquiumnordoIbelievetheyomittedthosethingsoutofignorance,butrather
throughdisuseorfearofbeingtootedious,orburdeningthemindsoftheirReadersorAuditorsFortheywerewonttojudge,
accordingastheyfoundthePlanetsdisposedinHousesandSigns,theirFortitudesandDebilities,togetherwiththePartof
Fortune,andsomefewotherthings.
Butthououghtesttoconsiderinthyjudgments,notonlywhattheydid,butalsoallothercircumstancesthatthoucanstfor
whenthoudosterectafigure,thoushould'stfirstfinetheSignificatorofthethingenquiredafter,ortobeundertaken,andsee
ifanyofthefixedstarsofhisownNaturebeingeitherofhisHouses,orinhisExaltation,orinconjunctionwithhimtoa
minuteforthensuchstarshallsofarhelpthesignificator,thatthethingshallbeaccomplishedandeffected,evenbeyondthe
Querent'shopes,andthisisamoststrongsecretHelper:FortheQuerentmaywellwonderhowitcomestopass.
Now,ifthesamestarshouldbeinthesamedegreewiththeSignificatorfromoneminuteto15'beforehimor5'behindhim,it

willstillhelphim,butnotsomuch:andthiswecallaverystrongsecretHelper
butifitbewithhiminthesamedegree,butabove16minutesdistanceandwithin50',itwillsomewhathelp,yetthislessand
thiswecallinthePositivedegreeonlyastrongsecretHelper.
IfitbeinthesamedegreewiththeSignificator,inaplacewherehehastwoofhissmallerDignities,intheverysameminute,
orwithin16minutes,itwillhelphimyetless,andthen'tisaweaksecretHelper
from16'to50'stillless,andthen'tisaweakersecretHelper
butifitbewiththeSignificatorinaplacewherehehasnodignitiesatallitwillstillhelp,butasitwereinsensiblyandthis
wecallamostweaksecrethelper.
Thelikewemaysayonthecontraryofthosethingsthatprejudice,frustrate,andhinderbusiness:ForifaPlanetwhichis
Significatorofanything,beinginaplacewherehehasnotanyDignities,shallbejoinedwithoneoftheFixedStarsofa
contrarynature,itwillweakenhimandnotsufferthethingtocometopassalthoughotherwisebytheFigureitseemednever
soprobablesothat,forwantofheedingthis,theArtistoftengetsdiscredit,andraisesascandalontheArtitselfamongstthe
ignorant:andthisisamoststrongsecretHinderer
whereasifthesameStarberemoteabove16minutesfromtheSignificator,itwillweakenhim,butnotaltogethersomuch
whenceitmaybecalledonlyaverystrongsecretHinderer.
AndsodownwardsthroughalldegreesinthesamemanneraswesaidoftheHelpersorAssistantcausesrespectively.Ofthe
severaltwentyoneModesaforesaid,whicharemoststrongHelpers,&c.andwhichstrongestobstructs.
TheseveralModesbeforementionedarethustobeknownanddistinguished:
AmoststrongmanifestHelperorAdjuvantcause,iswhenthePlanetwhichisSignificatorofathing,isinhisownHousein
anAngleontheveryminuteofthecusp,direct,swiftofcourse,inreception,andfreefromallafflictionandimpediment
whichmostseldomhappens.
AverystrongmanifestHelper,iswhentheSignificatorisinhisHouseorExaltationinanAnglewithinadegreeortwoofthe
Cusp,freefromimpediment,andinReception,whichveryseldomhappens.
AstrongmanifestHelper,iswhentheSignificatorisinanAngleinhisHouseorExaltation,within3degreesbeforetheCusp,
or5degreesafterit.
AweakmanifestHelper,iswhereaPlanetisintwoofhislesserDignitiesinanAnglewithin5degreesbeforeor15degrees
afteritorisinhisHouse,orExaltation,inasuccedentHousefreefromaffliction.
AweakeropenHelper,iswhentheSignificatorisinhisownHouseorExaltation,ortwoofhislesserDignities,butina
cadentHouseoftheFigure,yetbeholdingtheAscendant.
AmostweakopenHelperiswhentheSignificatorisinsomeofhisgreaterDignities,ortwoofhislesser,notbeholdingthe
AscendantorinoneofhislesserDignitiesonlybeholdingthesame,orjoinedtoaPlanetthatbeholdsthesame,andhas
someDignitiestherein.
AmoststrongopenHindereriswhentheSignificatorisinaplacewherehehathnoDignity,nodelight,isnotreceived
besiegedbytheTwoInfortunes,CadentfromanAngle,andfromtheAscendant:andsomuchtheworseifjoinedwithanyof
theFixedStars,ofamischievousnature,&c.
Theremaybeotherbothadjuvantandobstructingcauses,besideswhatwehavementioned,bothopenandsecret:proceeding
fromtheconjunctionsofPlanetsandtheirAspects,tootediousheretodiscourseof.
NorshallIhereenlargeonallthosebeforementioned,butmostassuretheethatthisninthconsideration,carefullyobserved,
willbeofgreatuseinraisingatrueandwaryjudgmentespeciallyifthouhastalwaysadiligenteyetotheMoonforsheof
allthePlanetshasthegreatestsimilitudeandcorrespondencewithinferiorthings,bothingeneralandparticular:aswellthe
speciesofthekindsastheindividualsofthespecieswithwindstopassbyherdailyeffectswhichshecausesinallthings

disappears:justsodoallbodiesbothofthingsRational,Irrational,andVegetative:asmengrowuntiltheyarecompletedto

theirdeterminatestature,andthendroopanddeclinecontinuallytilltheirlifeisendedandsoofallotherthings.Hencetis
necessarytomaketheMoonconcernedintheSignificationofeveryQuestion,Nativity,EnterpriseandBusiness,andher
goodconditiontoshowthegoodissueofthething:andsoonthecontrary.
ForherVirtueandPowerissuchandsogreat,thatiftheLordoftheAscendantorotherSignificatorofabusinessbesoweak
andafflictedthathecannotbringitaboutandcompleteitasheought:ifshebebutstrongitshall,notwithstanding,be
accomplished.ForsheistheSchoolmistressofallthingstheBringerdownofallthePlanet'sinfluences,andakindofan
'internuncio'betweenthem,carryingtheirvirtuesfromonetotheother,byreceivingthedispositionofoneplanetandbearing
ittoanother.Andsomehavethoughtthatshedoesthisatalltimes,ofwhichopinionwasthatTyrantCylinusdeRomano,
viz.,ThatwhensheseparatesfromonePlanet,shetakesthevirtueandcarriesittoanother,committingthesametothefirst

Andsomehaveimaginedthat"Zael"saidthesamebuthismeaningwasnotabsolutelysoforliebelievedthattheMoondid
bearwhatwascommittedtoherbutifitwerenotsogivenorcommittedtohershecouldnotcarryanythingtoanytowhich
Iassent:forwhentheMoonisjoinedtoanyplanetthatreceivesher,thenthatplanetcommitsitsdispositiontoher,who
carriesitwithherandbestowsitonthatplanetwhomshefirstmeetswithanyofherdignities,andnottoanother:according
tothatAphorism,"APlanetgivesnothinginaplace,wherehehaspromisednothing."
10.The10thConsideration,IswarilytoobservewhatFixedStarsmayeitherhelporhinderthematterinquestionforthey
haveoftentimesgreatpower,andleadtheAstrologersometimesintoerrorandlettheArtistbesuretoconsidertheplacesof
theFixedStars,astheyareinthepresentagecarefullyreduced.
11.The11thConsideration,IstotakenoticeoftheMalevolentPlanets,andwhattheysignifyforSaturnandMarsare
naturallybad,Saturnforexcessofcold,andMarsforexcessofheatnotthateitherofthemisreallyhotorcold,butvirtually
soandthesearetheireffects.Andsotheysignifieevilanddamageandhindrance,unlesstheyreceivetheSignificatororthe
MoonbyHouse,Exaltation,ortwooftheirsmallerdignitiesorshallthemselvesbeSignificatorsforthentheywillbridle
theirmalice,andnotweakenorhinderhimwhomtheyreceive,withwhataspectsoevertheybeholdhimbutiftheydonot
receive,theirmaliceisincreasedandsomuchthemoreiftheybeinoppositionorSquareforinSextileorTrinethemischief
isless.Yet'Zael'seemstosaythatInfortuneslayasideorrestraintheirmalice,wheretheyareinTrineorSextilebuthis
meaningwasonlythattheywerenotthensoviolent,andintendednotthattheirmalicewaswhollyabated.
12.The12thConsideration,IstobeholdtheFortunes,andseewhattheysignifyforJupiterandVenusareFortunesby
Nature,andbeingtemperate,aresaidtobewithoutanymalice,becausetheydohurttonone,unlessnowandthenby
accidentwhichisbesidetheirintentionandprofitably,andalwaysendeavourtohelpboththeirownandothers,whetherthey
receivethemornotbutsomuchthebetteriftheyreceivethemandtheirTrineorSextileisbetterandmoreadvantageous
thantheirSquare,andtheirsquarethantheirOppositions.
13.The13thConsideration,istoregardtheSunandhisSignificators,forheisalsocalledafortune,andso,whateveraspect
heshallbebeheldby,unlessitbeOppositionbutbyConjunctionhebecomesanInfortune,becausehethenrendersevery
starthatissoinConjunctionwithhim,combustandunfortunateunlessthesameshallbeintheheartoftheSun,andthere
everystarisfortified.
14.Thel4thConsideration,istomindMercuryandtheMoon,andwhatPlanetstheyarejoinedwithbecausetheywillhave
thesignificationwiththosewithwhomtheyaresojoinedbeingofaconvertiblenature.
15.The15thConsideration,istoregardtheseveralwaysingeneralwherebyPlanetsmakeimpressionsontheseinferior
things,whicharetwo,onegoodandtheotherbadfortheFortuneshavepowerofimprintinggoodnaturally,andthe
Infortunesasnaturallyslowerdownillimpressionswhencethoumayest,whereverthouseesttheFortunes,hopeforgood
andwhenthoubeholdesttheMalevolents,fearmischief,unlessthesameberestrainedasaforesaid.
16.The16thConsiderationistotakenoticewhetherthePlanetisSignificatorofanything,beafflictedbyeitherofthe
MalevolentswhichiswhenoneofthemcasthisraysupontheraysofsuchSignificators,accordingtothequalityoftheir
OrbsandWhilsthesocontinueswithhisraysorlightunderthoseoftheMalevolent,suchSignificatorissaidtobe
impedited,hinderedorafflicted,tilltheMalevolenthavepassedhimand'Zael'says,"AftertheillPlanethaspassedthe
Planethedidafflict,onewholedegree,thePlanetshallbesaidtobefreedofhim."
ButratherIthinkthataftertheMalevolentispassedhimoneminute,hemaybesaidtobefreeandexceptedforafterwardshe
canonlyfrightenhim.Trueitisheraisesagreaterfearwhenheispassedhimonlyoneminute,thanwhenheisgonebya
wholedegreebutyeteventhenitissuchakindoffearasisnotaltogetherwithoutsomeglimmeringofhope.

likewisein7degrees53minutesofAquary,sothatMercuryisnowseparatedfromSaturn,whowasLordoftheHouseof
Death,oneminutewhenceitappearsthatheshouldhavediedinthatengagementbyreasonoftheConjunction,andwasin

perilofdeathandakindofdesperatefearthatheshouldbeslainbyhisenemiesandshallbepursuedbythemsothatheshall
bepursuedbythemsothatheshallseemnotabletoescape,andtheyshalloftenlayhandsonhim,butatlastheshallget
awayfromthemandmakehisescapeevenbeyondhisownhopesandallbecauseMercuryisseparatedfromSaturn
and'Zael"saith,"ThatifaMalevolentplanetthatwouldhinderanybusinessbecadentfromtheAscendantsothathecannot
beholdit,hecannotreallyhinderthemattersbutonlyputsthepersonsconcernedintoterrorsandfrightsaboutit."
17.The17thConsideration,istoviewwhetherthePlanetthatisSignificator,besafeandprosperous,thatisfreefromany
afflictionfromtheInfortunesandoneoftheFortunescastshisbeamsorlightonthebeamsofsuchSignificatorforthen
shallthatPlanetbesaidtobesafeandguardedtilltheFortuneispassedbythespaceofoneminute,andsignifiesthe
perfectionofthething.Butafterhehaspassedhimoneminute,itwillnotbeperfectedoraccomplishedforitonlyraises
hopesas(wesaid)themalevolentinthelikecasecoulddonothing,butcreatefear.YetissuchahopeastheQuerentwill
believeandfancyhimselfasitwerecertainyetnotwithoutsomethingofdoubt
asforexample,AQuestionisproposedofsomeweightyanddifficultbusiness,whetheritwillbedoneandbroughttopassor

flatterswithsplendidhopes,butnevercompletesthebusiness."

Cancer,Libra,orCapricorn,heissaidtobeinhisAngles:understandthelikeoftheirCorporalConjunction.Butiftherebe
Reception,hedoesnotafflictforreceptionabatesallmalice,aswehavesaidelsewhere.
19.The19thConsiderationis,TobeholdtheMoonifshebe'voidofcourse,'forthenitsignifiesanimpedimenttothethingin
question,itwillnotcometoagoodend,norbeaccomplishedbuttheQuerentshallbeforcedtodesistwithshameandloss.
20.The20thConsiderationis,ToobservewhethertheMoonorSignificatorbejoinedtoanyofthePlanets,forthenceyou
mustderiveyourjudgmentofwhatisliketohappeninbusiness.TakenoticethereforewhethertheplanettowhichtheMoon
orSignificatorjoins,receivesthemforthentherewillbegoodlaudableendandthematterwillbeaccomplishedwith
success,ifthereceiverbeaFortune.Butiftherebenoreception,yetiftheMoonorSignificatorshallgivevirtuetothat

24.The24thConsiderationis,Tonotewhethertheplanetwhoissignificator,beinhisDeclension,forthenitcausesa
hindrancetoeverythingtherebysignified,andtroubleandgriefaboutitandiftheQuestionbeaboutaprisonwhereinthe
Querentfearsheshallbeput,itsignifiesheshallbecastintothesametogetherwithdisgraceandprejudiceandifthe
Questionconcernsonealreadyinprison,itsignifiesconfinementandmoreafflictionthanhebelieves.
25.The25thConsiderationis,WhetherthePlanetthatisSignificatorbeRetrograde,orStationarytoRetrogradation:forthen
itsignifiesmischiefanddamage,discord,contradiction,andgoingbackwardwithdamageyetbeingstationary,isnotsobad,
asbeingRetrograde.Forthelastnotesthemischieftobe,asitwere,presentandinbeing.ButbeingStationarynotesthat'tis

pastandover.
26.The26thConsiderationis,WhethertheSignificatorbeinhisSecondStation,thatistowardsDirectionforthatsignifies
alsohinderanceandevil,whichalreadyhathbeenandispastyetsomesaythatthisSecondStationisasgoodasdirection:
butthisisonlyawayofspeaking,aswhenonehathbeensickandbeginstogrowwell,wesayheisrecoveredandsound,
whichisnotsimplytrue,butsomewherenearitforastheFirstStationisnotsobadasRetrogradation,sotheSecondStation
isnotsogoodasdirection.
27.The27thConsiderationis,WhethertheInfortunesaretheSignificatorsofanythingforiftheysignifyill,theevilwillbe
muchaugmented,andifgooditwillbemuchdiminished,abated,imperfect,andwithdifficultysothatthepartywillscarce
thinkhisbusinessdone,unlessbychancetheybeinaverygoodconditionandexcellentlydisposed.
28.The28thConsiderationisWhethertheSignificatorbeslowofCourse,forthenitdelaystheeffectandifitbeinthe
beginningofanything,retardsit,sothatitwillbescarceeverbefinished:besides,thingsproceedslowly,whereSignificators
arepointedinSagittary,Capricorn,AquaryorPisces:orwhoaretheLordsofthem,whethertheybeslowofCourseinAries
orScorpiotheyarenotquitesodilatory.InLeotheyhastenbusinessmoreinTaurusorLibrabutmostofallinGeminior
Virgo.
29.The29thConsiderationis,WhethertheMoonbejoinedtoanyplanetbybodyoraspectexactlytoaminuteforthat
signifiesthepresentstateofthingsandfromthatminuteobservewhatplanetshejoinsnext,forheshallbeSignificatorofall
thatshallhappenofthatthingastheplanetshewaslastbeforewith,wasofwhathasalreadypassedasaforesaid.
30.The30thConsiderationis,ToobservewhenaplanetthatisSignificator,ortheMoon,shallhavepastthe29thdegreeof
theSignwhereinitis,andtouchesthe30th,andespeciallyifithavepassedoneminuteofthatdegreeforthenitshallhave
nostrengthinthatSign,butinthenextsothatifinthefirstitsignifiedanyevil,itshallhurtthepersonorthingthreatenedno

himdoit,providedhebenotafflictedhimself,asinhisfall,CombustorRetrograde(yeteventhenhehelps,butnotso
powerfully).OntheothersideVenustakesoffthefuryofMars,byreasonofthatendearingintimacywhichisbetweenthem,
unlessthethingbeverydifficult,aswarsandbloodshed,&c.ButshecannotsowelldivertthemischiefofSaturnwithoutthe
helpofJupiter(andthenshecandoitaswellasatothertimesthatofMars).Thereasonis,thereisnosuchsympathybetween
Saturnandshe,inanyrespectforheisslow.sheswiftheheavy,shelightdedelightsinmelancholy,sheinmirth.
49.The49thistoconsider,WhetheroneoftheInfortunesbeingSignificator,bejoinedtoanother,forifhesignifiedagood
himself,thiswilldestroyorfrustrateitbutifanyevil,itwillaugmentanddoubleit,orchangeitintosomeworsemischiefof
anotherofanotherkindaswhenthepainnearthenavelturnsintoadryDropsybutifjoinedtoaFortunewithaReception
oneitherside,theevilwillbeconvertedintogoodbutwithoutaReceptionitwillonlybeallayedandabated,accordingto
thestrengthofsuchFortune.

anyoftheAnglesofthethingenquiredafterifitbe,itdenotesthatthebusinesswillbeaccomplished,unlessitbethe
Querent'sownfault(orthatGodoverruleagainstit),thoughperhapsbyothersignificationsitseemednotlikely.Butifitshall
nothappensobutonlythesameisintheAscendantandtheothersignificatorsthatis,TheLordoftheAscendantofthething
enquiredofandtheMoon,oranyofthemassist,thethingwellbedonewithease.IfitbeinCadentHouses,itwillscarceever

AsiftheAscendantbeinAries,heshallbeexcusedinthosethingsasshallbeinthecauseofhisowndeathorfallbecause
ScorpiotheotherHouseofMarswillbethenintheEighthHouse:butifMarsbewelldisposedandthePartofFortune
happenintheEighthheshallbeveryfortunateinallthingssignifiedbythatHouse.
IfTaurusascendheshallbeexercisedinthosethingsasshallcausehisownweakness,becauseLibrawhichistheother

IftheAscendantbeinGeminiheshallbeexercisedinsuchthingsasshalloccasionhisbeingtakenbecauseVirgo,Mercury's
otherHouse,willbeonthefourthbutifMercurybewelldisposedandPartofFortuneinthefourth,hewillbeprosperousin
thingsbelongingtotheFourthHouse.IfVirgoascends,hewillbeexercisedinthingsthatwillgainhimhonourandpower,
becauseGemini,Mercury'sotherHouse,isinthetenth.IfMercurybetheninConjunctionwiththePartofFortuneandinthe
Ascendant,heshallacquireasitwereaKing'srevenue.ButifMercurybeinthetenthwiththePartofEmpire,fortunateand
strong,heshallundoubtedlyobtainaKingdomorsupremecommandandifthisPartofFortuneandtheMoonbealsointhe
Tenth,hewillbeamightyPrinceinfallibly.IfLibraascend,heshallbeexercisedinthingsthatshallhastenhisowndeath,

AquariusisthenontheSecondHouse.ButifSaturnbeilldisposedheshallsquanderawayandwastehisownsubstanceidly.
IfAquariusascendheshallprocurehimselfmanysecretenemies.BecauseCapricornwillbethanintheTwelfthHouse.If
Piscesascend,heshallraisehimselftohonour,etc.
126.The126thconsiderationis,TotakenoticeinNativitiesandQuestions,whetherMercurybesignificatorwhollyorinpart,
fortunateandstrongandinCapricornorAquarius?ForthentheNativeshallbeofprofoundandpiercingwit,andgreat

therebeatranslationoflightbyanyplanetbetweenthem?Iftherebenothingofthisandthesignascendingbeneitherofthe
natureofMercuryortheMoonandSaturninadiurnalnativityandMarsinanocturnal,andonebeinanAngle,thenative
willbemad,distracted,troubledwithfits,afooloratleastexceedinglyforgetful,unlessaFortuneverystrongshallatthe
sametimebeholdtheAscendant,Mercury,ortheMoonandsomuchtheworseiftheAnglewhereinsuchInfortuneis,
happentobeCancer,whichistheexaltationofJupiter,orVirgotheexaltationofMercury,orPiscestheexaltationofVenus.

respecttoCitiessothatalthoughwemayusethesuperiorplanetsinelectionsforbuildingCastles,itisbettertotakeFixed
StarsyetstillbecauseCitiesareoflongercontinuancethanCastles,theyaremoreappropriatedtothefixedStars,whose
Subjectstheyare.Fortheimpressionwhichasolidthingmakesinamoresolidthing,continuesmuchlongerthanthatwhich
itmakesonalesssolidthingandfarlessinathingnotsolid,thanathingsomewhatsolidandyetlessinaveryslippery
transientthing,thaninathinglesslubricousorchangeable.
HencetheimpressionswhichthefixedStarsmakeonCitiesaremorecorrelativetotheminlengthoftime,andaccordingly
thoseofCastlesmoredurablethanthoseofHouses,forthesamereasonproportionally.Butbodiesofmenaremoreremote
fromthosefixedstarsthanHousesthemselves,andsomorecorruptibleandforthatacausetheirSignificationsapplylessto
them,oriftheyhappen,abidebutlittletheSignificationsofthefixedStarsbeingsogreatandnoble,sohighandfreefrom
corruptionandmutability,thattheycannoteasilytakeuponthemavariablecommixturewiththingsquicklycorruptibleand
suddenlychangeable,unlessitbeasoilonwaterforthoughitmayenterintoit,yetsuchimpressionwillnotlongcontinue
forthefixedLightsoperatewithsomuchnobleness,thatbyreasonoftheirlongdistancefromthosevilecorruptible
changeablebodies,andneighbourhoodtotheSupremeLight,theireffectscannotremaininorwiththem,whentheyare
lightlyorsuddenlychangedandcorruptedespeciallyinbasepeopleandmeanspiritsfortheyseldomtrascendhispersonto
whomtheyhappen,andoftentimesleavehimwhilsthelives,andthattohisdamage,sogreatthatGoodalonecanpreventas
Iaffirmforthemostpartthough'tispossibletheymaysometimesterminateingoodandcontinuelong:
AsithathsometimeshappenedthatsomehavelivedtothegreatestyearsoftheAlcocoden,ofwhomIneversaybutonein
mytime,whowasnamedRichard,whoaffirmedhimselftohavebeenaCourtierunderCharlestheGreat,KingofFrance,
andthathehadlived500years.AtwhattimetherewasareportofonethathadcontinuedaliveeversinceourSaviour'sdays
called'JohanButtadeus'becausehehadimpolissedtheLordashewasledtobecrucified,Whosaidtohim,"Thoushalt

NorcouldtheSignificationsofthefixedStarsbeappliedoradheretomennorsensiblyremaininthem,unlesstherewere
someMediumbywhichtheymightActuponthemwhicharethePlanets,whicharesecondaryAgents,asthefirstare
principalforwhenevertherearediversactionsinorder,attributedtoseveralAgents,theprincipalactoughttobereferredto

theprincipalAgent,whichinrespectoftheeffectsoncorruptiblethings,wastheprimaryCause.AndthePlanetsare
Secondary:forthatcorruptionwhichthoseinferiorssuffer,happensbyreasonoftheirtoogreatdistancefromthe
incorruptiblesuperiorsyettheireffectssometimecontinuelonginGrandees,andpersonsveryrich,whoareaptforEmpire,
magnanimous,andofbraveandexcellentspirits
SuchasinmytimewastheEmperorFredericktheSecondwhowhenhewasindigentandingreatnecessity,wasarrivedto
theImperialDignity,andbroughtunderhisobedienceallApulia,theKingdomofSicily,Jerusalem,Crocovia,Italyandthe
wholeEmpire(exceptLombard)subduingallEnemies,TraitorsandRebels,andremainedinthatIllustratiousflourishing
conditionyetatlastdiedmiserably,beingpoisonedbyhisdomestics,andallhisfamilyextirpatedsothatscarceanyofthem
remained.SuchanotherwasEcilinusdeRomano,whowhenhewasbutmean,wasfarexaltedaboveallotherItalians,forhe
ruledand,asitwere,tyrannizedovertheMarquisateofTreveseventoAlmaineandTrent,andwithinfourorfivemilesof
Venice,andhisTyrannycontinuedtwentysixyearsbutatlastalltheseglorieswereovercastwithcalamity,forwhenit
seemedimpossibletosuppresshim,hefellintothehandsofhisenemiesatabattleintheCountryofMediolanensiapud
Cassianum,anddiedwretched,andallhisposteritywasdestroyed,notoneofthemremaining.
InthesamemannertherewasintheKingdomofApuliasofbasedescent,calledPeterdeVinea:whowhenhewasascholar
atBononiawasforcestobegforhisliving,andhadnotbreadtoeat,yetwasmadeanotary,andafterthatProtonotaryofthe
CourtoftheEmperorFredericktheSecondhebecameaJudgeandclimbedtosuchgrandeur,thathewashappythatcould
obtaintheleastofhisfavour,forwhateverhedidtheEmperorwouldconfirmbuthimselfwouldoftensetasidewhathad
beenestablishedbytheEmperor,whomadehimLordofApulinwherebyhegrewsorich,thathehad10,000poundsofGold
besidesotherTreasuresalmostinestimableyetintheendhefell,andwasreducedtosuchmisery,thattheEmperorordered
hiseyestobeputoutenragedatwhichoutofmereindignationhestruckouthisownagainstawall,asitwasthencommonly
reported.
AnotherwasatPysacalledSmerolusoneofthedressofthevulgar,whocametobe,asitissaid,LordofthatProvince:nor
durstanyofthenobilityforawhilecontendwithhimyetatlasthecametonothing.AfterwhomoneOddoGualduzius,a
meanfellow,taperedupsohighthathedidasitwere,swaythewholecityandnonewouldcontradicthim,tillGalyver,a
Judge,causedhimtobechoppedalltopieces.ThesamehappenedatFlorylyciurn.OnecalledSimonMustaguerethesonof
obscureParents,whomountedsohighthatallthepeopleadoredhim:nordurstanyopposehim,saveonlymyself,whoknew
himthoroughly:andwhatmischiefhecould,hedidathispleasureforthreeyears'space:butatlastdownhecamebeing
banishedfromtheCitywhichhappenedfortheodiousnessofhispersonandcowardice.
AnotherbeingaFriarofthePreachingOrder,bynameJohn,byNationVicentinus,wasadmiredasaSaintbyalltheItalians
thatacknowledgedtheRomanChurchbutIeverthoughthimanHypocritehegrewsohighthathewasreportedtohave
raised18fromtheDead(thoughneveroneofthemcouldbeseem),andtocurealldiseases,frightDevils,etc.,yetcouldInot
perceiveanybodyfreedbyhim,thoughImademuchenquiryintohismiracleshowever,thewholeworldseemedtorunafter
him,andhethoughthimselfhappythatcouldgetathreadofhisCap.WhichtheyesteemedequalwiththerelicsoftheSaints
andinhispreachinghewouldpubliclyboast,thathehadConversewithJesusChrist,theVirginMary,andAngelswhenhe
list.Bywhichtricks,theFriarsofhisorderatSononiagotmorethan20,000marks.
AndhispowerwassogreatthatbyhisownwillhereleasedaSoldierashewasgoingtoExecutionforMurderNordurstthe
Magistratesdenyhim,notspeakillofhimbutmyself,whoknewallhiswheadlesandcozenages:forwhichtherabble,merely
outoffearofhim,reportedmeanHeretic.Inwhichesteemandpomphecontinuedaboveahear,butatlastwentoutlikethe
snuffofacandle,withastink,hisdevicesandhypocrisiebeingdiscovered,sothathebecameasgenerally:andeverybody
wasashamedtobeseeninhiscompany.
142.l42ndConsiderationis,ToobserveinNativitiesandgeneralquestions,thegiftsandgoodadvantagesbestowedonmen
bythePlanets:becausethoseareappliedmoreeasilytothem,andcontinuelongerextendedtotheirsuccessors,accordingas
theyarewelldisposedintheRadicasoftheirNativitiesbuttheyareseldomexceedinggreat,unlesswhenappliedby
fortunatefixedStarsbecausebeingofamoreswiftmutabilitytheyhavecacloseraffinitywiththem,especiallyifproceeding
fromtheinferiorPlanetsfortheirconformitywithmen,theircorrelativesubjects.ThoseoftheSuperiorslastnotsolongwith
menbutinbuildingofhousestheyaremuchbetterthantheother.
NOTEBYLILLY.OftheGoodgivenbySaturnandOtherPlanets,etc.SaturnOrientalandwelldisposed,thatis
strongandinReception,givesgreatfortuneinbuilding,plantingtreesrequiringalonggrowth,inmanuringground,erecting
waterworksandthelike.JupitergivesgoodluckinSciencessuchastheLawandDignities,beingmadeaBishop,aJudge,or
thelike.MarsinleadingforthofArmies,etc.SolinLayPreferments,asKingdoms,Governments,etc.ButtheLowerPlanets
bestowtheirgiftsinherenttomenandmoredurable:asVenus,intheattemptsofwomen,theirornaments,courtingthem,etc.
Mercuryintrading,writing,etc.TheMooninnavigation,plantingvines,usingdrinks,sellingwine,etc.
Allthese,IsayareexcellentlywellbestowedbythePlanetsadvantageouslyposited,andendurelonger,thatistosay,The
prosperitiesgivenbytheMoonmaycontinuetothe7thyearorgeneration,becausesheisthe7thplanetreckoning
downwards:andiftheypassthe7thageorgenerationtheycannotexceedthe8thassupposefromthe42ndyeartothe45th
yearincludingthoseofMercurymayenduretothe6thage,beingthe6thfromSaturn,butwillscareholdoutofthe7th.

ThoseofVenustothe5thage,shebeingthe5thPlanetfromSaturn:butwillnotexceedthe6th.ThoseoftheSuntothe4th
age.ThoseofMarstothe3rdage.ThoseofJupitertothe2ndage.ThoseofSaturnonlyforoneage,andcannottranscend
nayseldomreachthe3rd.
AndthoughIsaytheymaycontinuesolong,yetdoInotsaytheyshallnotbefinishedbefore,forasAristotlesays,Thereare
termsthatcannotbepassedover:yethedoesnotsaybutthattheymaybepreventedandcomeshortoffsointhesecasesand
further,whenIsaythattheycannotcontinuelonger,Imeanwithoutvanishingwholly,orsodepressed,thatitwillbenomore
likewhatwasbefore,thangreenorrussettoaperfectwhiteunlessbychancesomethingfromanothercausehappensanew
whichseldomchanges,norcantrulybesaidtobethesame.Butquiteanotherthingfromthefirst.Hencecomesperhapsthe
commonobservationthatgoodsorpossessionsillgot,neverabidetothe5thor3rdage:manythatusethatproverbnot
knowingwhenceitcomestopassbutonlybecausetheyhaveheardotherssaysoorseenitoftenhappenthus.Butfromwhat
wehaveherelaiddown,somereasonmaybegivenforillgottengoodscountsuchasaregotbywayofusury,lies,deceit,
theft,repine,andthelike.
143.The143rdConsideration,Istounderstandthetruemethodofjudging,andbywhatwaysthoumayestcometosome
result,thatthoumaystexamineandrightfullydiscussthesame,anddiscoverthetruthofwhatthestarsshallshowthee?And
hereinthereare14pointstobeconsideredandheeded:
1.WhethertheQuerentproposesthequestionreallyandintentivelyornot?ForiftheLordoftheAscendantandtheLordof
thehourbeinthesameortheSignswhereinthoseSignificatorsareplacedbeofthesameTriplicityorcomplectionthe
Questionisseriousbutotherwise,iftheAscendantshallbetheendofanySign,theQuestionisnotRadical.
2.BeholdtheAscendantandhisLord,theMoonandthePlanetfromwhichsheseparatesandassignthemforSignificatorsof
theQuerenttheSeventhandthePlanetwithwhichtheMoonisjoined,shallrepresentthepersonenquiredafterbutifitbe
necessary,descendtothepersons,asthethingsaresignifiedbytheHouse,fromthefirsttothetwelfth.
3.Considerthenatureofthethingenquiredabout,theHouseandSignwherebyitissignified.
4.TheAspectsofthePlanetsbothgoodandmalevolenttotheSignificatorsofthethingssoughtafter.
5.InwhatplacefromitsownHouseeachoftheSignificatorsare:viz.,Whetherinhisownorthesecond,third,orfourth,etc.,
orintheCombustwayorthelikeplaces.
6.WhethertheyarefoundinAnglesCadentorSucceedentHouses.
7.DiligentlyseewheretheQuerent'sAssistantsmustcome,viz.,whetherfromaFather,aSon,aKingaKinsman,ora
Friend,etc.
8.BythemirthoftheQuerent,asiftheLordoftheAscendantshallbeinthefifth,orelsewherejoinedwithitsLordfree
frombeingafflictedbytheInfortunes.OrbyhissadnessasifhisSignificatorhappeninthe6th7th8th,or12"unlessthe
questionbeofthingssignifiedbythoseHousesandasthoufindestsojudge.
9.BytheFortunesandInfortunes,accordingasthoufindesttheminplacessignified,thethingsaboutwhichtheQuerentis
movedandifthebenevolentsaremore,'tisgood,ifotherwisethecontraryifthetestimoniesareequal,thenindifferent.
10.WhethertheLordoftheAscendantbeintheHouseofthethingenquiredafter,orwithitsLord.
11.InwhatHousetheLordofthefirstisjoinedwiththeSignificatorofthethingslookedafterforbytheSignificatorofthe
House,orhisoccasion,thoumaystjudgethematterwillbebroughtabout.
12.IftheSignificatorsarenotjoinedthere,whethertherebeabyTranslationofLightbetweenthembyanyPlanet,orreceives
theirdescription,thoushaltjudgethesamething.
13.BythenaturesoftheSignificatorsthemselves,agreeingintheirnaturesandsignificationswitheachother.
14.AccordingtothereceiveroftheSignificator'svirtueordispositionshallbeaFortuneorInfortunestrongorweak,and
doesbeholdtheSignificator,ortheMoon,oranywithAspectofloveorenmity,soshaltthoupronouncejudgment.
144.The144thConsiderationis,ToobserveinQuestions,Nativities,orElections,whentheSignificatorsshallnotclearly
showtheewhatthouwouldstknowbutthesignifcationremainsdubious,sothatthemindisinsuspense,taketheplaceofthe
LordoftheAscendant,andtheplaceoftheLordsoftheFlouseoftheMoon,andseethedistanceofdegreesbetweenthem,
beginningfromAries,ofwhichmakesigns,andaddthedegreeofthesignascending:andprojectfromtheAscendantaswell
bydayasnight,andwherethenumberfalls,theLordofthatHouseshallbeSignificatorandfromhimtaketheSignification
ofthebusinessenquired,foraccordingtohisdispositionthoumayestjudge.

145.The145thConsiderationis,ThatthouseeinDiurnalNativites,whetherCorLeonisbeintheAscendant,thatistosayin
theOrientalLineoraboveitonedegreeorbelowitthreedegreesorwhetheritbeinthetenthinlikedegrees,withoutthe
ConjunctionorAspectofanyoftheFortunesforthisalonesignifiesthattheNativeshallbeapersonofgreatnoteandpower,
toomuchexalted,andattaintoohighprefermentandhonours,althoughdescendedfromthemeanestparents.Andifanyof
theFortunesbeholdthatplacealso,hisgloryshallbethemoreincreased:butiftheNativitybenocturnal,hisfortunewillbe
somewhatmeaner,butnotmuchbutiftheInfortunescasttheiraspectsthereitwillstillbemoremeanbutiftheFortunes
beholditalsotheywillaugmentthegoodpromisedafourthpart,andmitigatetheevilasmuchyetstillwhateverofallthis
happens,itsignifiesthattheNativeshalldieanunhappydeathoratleastthatallhishonours,greatness,andpower,shaltat
lastsufferaneclipse,andsetinacloud.
146.Thel46thconsiderationis,ThatthoutaketheplaceoftheLordoftheAscendant,andtheplaceoftheLordofthe12th,
andsubtractingthelesserfromthegreateraddtotheremainderthedegreesofthesignascendingandprojectfromthe
AscendantandwherethenumberfallstheLordofthesignshallbepartnerwiththeLordoftheQuestion,andshallbecalled
thePrincipalPartner.Again,taketheplaceoftheLordofthesaidsign,andplaceoftheLordofthePartofFortune,and
subtractingthelesserfromthegreateraddthedegreesofthatsignshallbeanotherPartner,andbecalledtheSecondary
PartnerwhichifithappentobethesamePlanet,regardonlythatbutifdifferent,thentakebothandsubtractthelesserfrom
thegreaterandaddthedegreesofthesignascending,andtheplanetonwhoseHousethenumberfallsshallbethethird
Partnerandwhichofthosethreeisthestrongestshallbethechiefestsharerinthesignificationsofthethingenquiredafter.If
alltheremainders,ortwoofthem,shallhappenontheHouseofonePlanetthatshallbepreferred.IftheQuestionseem
good,andthosePartnersareilldisposed,theywilldiminishofthegoodsignifiedbytheQuestion,andsoonthecontrarybut
iftheQuestionseemevil,andtheyarewelldisposed,theywillallayandmitigatetheevilsignifiedbytheQuestion,andso
likewiseonthecontrary.
