RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

INTRODUCTION
This section discuss the methodology of the research. The main purpose of the
research is to investigate the problem of unemployment among fresh graduates of
students of UITM Bertam campus. To asses and evaluate the problems of
unemployment among fresh graduates, a branch campus of UITM situated at
Persiaran Pendidikan Bertam with 50 of them was choosen. The data for the
research were collected through questionnaire, interview and observation.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
This research utilized both the quantitative and qualitative research methodology.
The instrument used to collect the data were questionnaire, interview and
observation. A set of questionnaire containing 10 questions. The different question
type such as ranking, yes-no question, listing, category and open-ended were used
in the questionnaire. The different section of the questionnaire were; demographic
information, cause of unemployment, the opportunities that government provide,
what to do if they are unemployed, opinion on the problems, and the comments.
The qualitative data for the research come from interview and observation.
The interview was utilized to confirm the findings from the questionnaire as well as
to triangulate the data collection methods. Ten respondent were involvedin the
interview. The interviews further will explore the main things that cause the
unemployment among fresh graduates increased.
Observation is another method of data collection for the research. In this
study, observation is used for the purpose of obtaining the cause of unemployment
among the respondents.

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY


The respondents of the study were second year undergraduates from the different
courses at UITM Bertam. The total of 50 questionnaire were distributes to students

at different courses of the university. A total of 50 students returned the


questionnaire which included 15 male students and 35 female students. 10 students
were selected to provide in-depths information about the topic through interview
sessions.
RESEARCH PROCEDURE
Before the actual data collection period, a pilot study was conducted to assess the
validity of the research instrument.
During the actual study, the questionnaire were distributed at various
locations on the campus, such as library, class, college and cafeterias. Respondents
were approached with an initial question of their knowledge about the problem of
unemployment before the questionnaire are distributed to them. Ten students were
selected from those who completed and return the questionnaire to attend the
interview sessions. Appointments were set for the interview at a later date. Group
interview was conducted due to the problem of time constraint.

DATA ANALYSIS
Data were entered into computer using software. Result were presented through
frequency counts and others descriptive statistics. Interview data would provide a
way to validate the data from the questionnaire. The data were transcribed. The
analysis of the interview data went through the coding technique using
identification of categories of patterns and themes that emerged from the analysis.
The field notes from the observation were transcribed, and data from the
observation sheet were analysed and tabulated in tables.
