Preamble to Meeting:
JH noted that there were sufficient members present to form a quorum, under the rules of the constitution.
Update regarding DERA Treasurer, David Bottomley
David had recently discovered a potentially serious illness and undergone a protracted operation at Manchester North
Hospital. The news was good: the operation had gone well and had been successful. At the time of the meeting,
David was up and about and starting on the long road to full recovery. The committee wished him well and looked
forward to his return.
Review of Public Meeting
The minutes of the October public meeting were not available by the time of that committee meeting. However,
In overview, Dave Sweeton made the point about the community having to become more involved in local projects as
the council had suffered because of lack of funding due to budget cuts. He was to set up a meeting with
representatives from local associations to see how that could be best accomplished.
Jo Nike was concerned about the reduction in police numbers. It was understood that this would occur over a period
of 18 months or so.
It was also understood that approximately 250 people would lose their jobs at TMBC some through voluntary
redundancy and others by retirement.
The opinion was that local community organisations could take over smaller ventures but larger undertaking such as
ASB would be beyond their scope.
JH expressed the view that the results of the 3,000 leafletting in the area had been extremely disappointing with only
4 members attending the AGM. The committee agreed that the cost and effort expended in delivering the leaflets was
not worth the return and, in future DERA would have to find an alternative way of publicising the meeting.
Gorse Hall Play Area
JH advised that he had attempted to meet with The Friends of Gorse Hall (TFGH) to discuss more detail about the
play area, but had received an email which advised that DERA had sufficient information following the last meeting
and that TFGH awaited proposals.
It appears, therefore, that DERA will have to investigate what equipment is available, arrive at a budget cost, and
then put ideas forward for consideration by TFGH.
After some discussion, it was suggested that we approach the Forestry Commission for assistance. Whilst it was
admitted that this would be the more costly route, the FC had the benefit of experience, knowledge of safety issues
and would be able to supply the heavy plant and machinery that would be needed to lift items such as tree trunks
etc. JH will make contact.
LW made the point that, because the park is leased from TMBC, the council would want to be consulted about the
play area.

Christmas event
The date for the event had not been finalised due to problems in booking the samba band. Either the 10th or the 15th
December were possible dates, to be confirmed. Scheduled start would be 6:00pm on the day, possibly drinks and
Father Christmas first (on the New Charter bus, made up as a grotto), then parade around Chester Ave. estate ending
back at the Christmas tree on Meadway for Christmas carols with the Moravian Choir.
DERA will organise a raffle to raise funds, probably during the first week in December, LW to advise date.
JH to provide photos from ID badges for those going door-to-door, JH, JB and AH, together with a copy of DERA logo.
Support for Moravian Christmas Fund-raising
Christine Storey would appreciate help from DERA in providing toys that children may have outgrown, also good
quality clothing either adults or children and good quality bedding for them to sell to raise money for Christmas food
hampers.
Valuing Our Communities funding
There was up to 500 available to support community projects for successful bidders.
Additional funding for the minibus was precluded as existing schemes or activities were ineligible.
The amount was too small to be of significance to the play area project, which was not far enough advanced to bid
for funding, anyway. Therefore, supporting the Associations efforts to improve the communal area, it was proposed
that window baskets be fitted to the balconies above the shops on Yew Tree Lane. LW was to consult the tenants to
ensure they will maintain the baskets and then a bid could be made, by the 4th December, latest.
Accounts
Due to DBs enforced absence, an update could not be provided for this meeting.
Update by New Charter
Some voluntary redundancies had been accepted, but there would need to be a number of compulsory redundancies
in order to meet the targets required by management. Whatever the outcome, the company structure would have to
change to cope with the reduced number of employees.
Any Other Business
Because the minibus is now parked under a tree, it gets dirty and the sap is staining the roof. JH/JB/AH volunteered
to clean the vehicle one weekend, weather permitting.
Date of Next Meeting
To be confirmed, dependent upon response from Forestry Commission.
