COMPEX MODULES EX01 EX04

Course Overview
This course provides competence-based training and assessment for electrical and
instrumentation personnel working in hazardous areas. Practical hands-on training and
assessment takes place in a realistic simulated environment, giving attendees a comprehensive
learning experience which is directly related to true industry environment.

Review of Explosion principles, gas properties and hazards (EXF concepts)


Standards, Certification, and marking per IEC 60079-series of standards
Protection Concepts and installation techniques for Ex d, Ex e, Ex n, Ex i, Ex o, Ex
m, Ex q, and Ex p equipment
Combined (Hybrid) types of protection
Wiring Systems, enclosure entries, and cable gland selection & installation to IEC
60079-14
Inspection & Maintenance of equipment to IEC 60079-14 and 60079-17 standards
Sources of Ignition
Hands-on installation & inspection (Assessed) -Ex d, Ex e and Ex n
- Ex i
Final Exam
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the CompEx Ex01-04 course the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate installation and inspections skills in hazardous areas
- Understand basics of Ex protection methods and where each may be used.
- Demonstrate understanding of Ex markings.
- Understand which activities are and are not allowed with regards to maintenance and repairs
EX01

Demonstrate ability to select appropriate cable glands


for Ex d, Ex e, Ex n applications.
Complete a partial-installation of Ex d, Ex e and Ex n equipment.
EX02
Identify installation errors in Ex d, Ex e and Ex n
equipment
EX03

Complete a partial installation of Ex i equipment


Understand Ex i methodology and installation requirements.
EX04

Identify installation errors in Ex i installations


Learning Techniques:
In order to provide the highest quality training experience, this course will consist of the
following instructional elements

Instructor led presentation The core elements of skill will be presented and
demonstrated in a classroom environment.
Lab exercises practical demonstrations of skill will be accomplished by the
student.
Final exam The Final Exam will be administered via an online service. Lab
Assessments will also be administered.
Documentation The attendee will receive an attendance certificate from ATEC
upon successfully passing the JTL exam, attendees will receive a certificate that is
valid for 5 years.

Target audience: Electrical Installation and Inspection Personnel. Assembly manufacturers
Location: Houston, Singapore, Dubai
Duration: 5 Days, 8am to 4pm
Pre-requisites: Proof of electrical qualification or employer letter. Proof of qualification:
successful completion of ExF or equivalent number of years experience, plus a letter (reference
/ support / explanation of existing duties) from current employer
Certification issued: Upon successful completion of separate modules, Certification of
Competence issued by JTL. Valid for 5 years
