a) Describe the principle of (buck-boost) chopper. Derive an expression for the average
output voltage in terms of input dc voltage & duty cycle.

b) Design a buck converter to produce an output voltage of 18 V across a 10 load resistor.
The output voltage ripple must not exceed 0.5 percent. The dc supply is 48 V. Design for
continuous inductor current. Specify the duty ratio, the switching frequency, the values of
the inductor and capacitor, the peak voltage rating of each device, and the rms current in
the inductor and capacitor. Assume ideal components.

c) Design a boost converter that will have an output of 30 V from a 12-V source. Design for
Continuous inductor current and an output ripple voltage of less than one percent. The
Load is a resistance of 50. Assume ideal components for this design.

a) Describe the working principle of 3 phase bridge Rectifier, and derive the expressions
for average output voltage and r.m.s output voltage.

b) The rectifier shown in Fig.1 has a purely resistive load of R=15 and, VS=300 sin
314 t and unity transformer ratio. Determine (i) The efficiency, (ii) Form factor, (iii)
Ripple factor, (iv) TUF, (v) The peak inverse voltage, (PIV) of each diode, (vi) Crest
factor of input current and (vii) Input power factor.

c) The rectifier in Fig. 2 is operated from 460 V 50 Hz supply at secondary side and the
load resistance is R=20 . If the source inductance is negligible, determine (i)
Rectification efficiency, (ii) Form factor (iii) Ripple factor (iv) Transformer utilization
factor, (v) Peak inverse voltage (PIV) of each diode and (vi) Crest factor of input
current and (vii) Draw the output voltage wave shape.
