Mick,

Your beginning to develop the correct technique which is delightful, however do not get
discouraged if you do not experience success every time.

Just keep practicing and working hard and you will continue to develop at the rate you have
done so far.

A couple of areas need refining which are responsible for your bad shots.

Ball Position
There is a tendency for the ball position to be too far forward (towards the target) in your
stance.

REMEMBER
 Pw – middle of the stance (in line with the sternum)
 7 iron – just left of centre (position the ball just left of the sternum)
 Driver – just inside the left heel (about a club head’s width)

 Routine for correct ball position


o Stand with your feet together
o Firstly, take your stance with your left foot
o Then, take your stance with your right foot
o Make sure your ball position in the correct position by making reference to your
sternum.
We continued to work on weight transfer and releasing the club as opposed to holding off
during impact where you occasionally fall back off the shot.

This has improved since our last session which is good; however we need to refine this move
for it to become consistent within your golf swing.

Sternum right knee to left knee half swing drill


 Address the ball with a Pw with the ball in the middle of the stance.
 Swing half way back to the 9 o’clock position
 Make sure that you have turned with your upper body and not used arms and hands
to swing the club
 Once in this position, stop and make sure your sternum is directly over your right
knee and foot as this is your reference to show that you have successfully
transferred your weight to your right side.
 Strike the ball and release the club to the 3 o’clock position.
 Hold this position and make sure your sternum has moved so that it is directly over
your left foot (this again is your reference to see if you have transferred your weight
successfully to your left side through impact and that you have not held back on it).
 Try and keep your left foot planted fully to the floor as there is a tendency to rock
back onto your heel.

When doing this drill, place emphasise on your body rotating throughout the shot.

This will ensure your weight is transferred correctly and you will release the golf club
efficiently.

There is a habit of using your arms and hands to hit the golf ball which will cause
inconsistency and inaccuracy!
