CAESES STARCCM Optimization

This document discusses shape optimization using the FRIENDSHIP-Framework and STAR-CCM+ software. It summarizes two test cases: 1) optimizing the KRISO KCS ship hull geometry to reduce drag, and 2) optimizing a 90-degree exhaust gas diffuser to reduce pressure drop and improve flow uniformity. The framework allows automated integration between CAD software and STAR-CCM+ using Java macros for meshing, simulation setup and extracting results. Global optimization searches were performed to find designs with improved performance objectives.
