Scholarship Czech Charles University ScholReg
These regulations set out the method for providing the students of the Faculty of Medicine in
Hradec Krlov (hereafter "Faculty") with scholarships, and also regulate the first level of
awarding scholarships.
Article 2
SCHOLARSHIPS
Article 3
TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS PROVIDED BY AN APPROPRIATION, THEIR
AWARDING AND PAYMENT

Article 4
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR EXCELLENT STUDY RESULTS
1. A scholarship for excellent study results (Article 3, Section 1, Letter a) ) can be awarded
to a student backdated for excellent study results, starting the beginning of the academic
year of the second year of study.
2. A scholarship for excellent study results can be awarded to a student who studied fulltime
in the master's study program the previous year, who did not repeat the study year, has
fulfilled the requirements defined by the study plan of the previous year, has achieved a
grade average of at least 1.25.
3. The students studying according to individual study plans can be awarded scholarships for
excellent study results when extending the study year for longer than an academic year
after fulfilment of all the requirements of the study plan for the given year.
4. The grade average includes:
a) all the examination results and the results of differential examinations (including the
mark "failed"),
b) all the valid results of examinations from previous study.
5. The calculation of the grade average is performed by dividing the sum total of all marks
(including the mark "failed") for the appropriate year by the amount of marks. The result
is rounded to the hundredth place.
6. The amount of the scholarships for excellent study results of the students in a given
academic year is 5,000 to 12,000 CZK. **A scholarship for excellent study results can be
awarded to students in two categories:
I. category - the average of the study results 1.00
II. category - the average of the study results 1.01 - 1.25

If the amount of granted financial means and the number of students fulfilling the
conditions for granting the scholarship allow paying of the scholarship in both categories,
the amount paid to students in the I. category must be higher.
7. A scholarship for excellent study results cannot be awarded to a student
a) studying in another form of study than full time,
b) in the postgraduate (Ph.D.) study program,
c) whose real study time extends the standard study time of a given program for more
than one year,
d) who has graduated from a University,
e) for the time of interrupting the study including all calendar months in which the
student's study was interrupted for at least one day,
f) who is currently on probation.
8. After a statement of the Academic Senate of the Faculty the Dean decides if the
scholarship or any of its parts for excellent study results will be paid. *Depending on the
amount of granted financial means and the amount of students fulfilling the conditions for
granting the scholarship, the Dean may state, after approval of the Academic Senate of the
Faculty, that the scholarship will be given only to students with average of the study
results 1,00 and this at the amount of min. 500,- CZK a month. In case of paying the
scholarship the Dean states the particular amount in accordance with these scholarship
regulations and after approval of the Academic Senate of the Faculty.

Article 5
SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIP
1. A special scholarship ( Article 3, Section 1, Letter b)) can be awarded to a student in the
academic year
a) as extraordinary regularly repeated amounts or in a single amount for excellent
scientific research, developmental, artistic or other creative activities or activities in
sports and games contributing to the deepening of knowledge; the student hands in the

request for this scholarship to the Study Division of the Faculty with a statement of an
advisor or other responsible worker; and proof of lecture or publishing activity (e.g. a
presentation at the student's scientific conference), achieved results in sports and
games, etc. must be included. Students in the doctoral (Ph.D.) program hand in their
requests to the Science and Research Division with references of the supervisor and
the chairman of the Subject Co-ordinating Board; the maximum amount of these
scholarships is 15,000 CZK and the Dean decides about their awarding and amount.
b) In case of a difficult social situation of the student; the Rector states the conditions for
awarding the scholarship and its amount for a given period after a statement of the
Academic Senate of Charles University in Prague (hereafter "University"). These
conditions are the same for all students of the University; the maximum scholarship
amount is 10,000 CZK.
c) For supporting studies abroad or for reasons of performing a practice in the Czech
Republic or abroad (primarily the study stays with IMFSA mediation, study stays
abroad with the Faculty mediation); the request containing the reasons is handed to the
Dean by the student via the International Relations Division; a confirmation of
awarding a study stay must be a part of the request, and the maximum amount of this
lump sum of the scholarship is 10,000 CZK. The Dean decides about its awarding and
its amount.
d) In special cases worthy of scholarship such as participation in a pedagogical and
scientific research activity, work in laboratories, participation in the development of
information technologies with international co-operation, and others; the request is
given to the Dean by the Study Division of the Faculty; reference of the supervisor or
other responsible worker, and study results are a part of this request; the maximum
amount of this scholarship is 20,000 CZK and the Dean decides about awarding this
scholarship and its amount.
2. The Rector or the Dean can award a student a special scholarship in the form of an
extraordinary prize under special extraordinary reasons; the conditions for awarding
extraordinary prizes, their amounts and other details are stated by the Rector or the Dean.
Article 6
POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

1. Postgraduate scholarships (Article 3, Section 1, Letter c)) are awarded to all students in
the postgraduate (Ph.D.) study in the first to the third year of the residential form of study
(Article 14 of the study and examination regulations of the Faculty). They do not concern
regulations in Article 8.
2. The postgraduate scholarship in the first year is 4,500 CZK monthly.
3. The postgraduate scholarship in the second and the third year is 5,000 to 6,000 CZK a
month. The specific amount within this range is stated by the Dean after a statement of the
Academic Senate.
4. After a student has successfully passed the state doctoral examination or defended the
doctoral dissertation the scholarship according to Section 3 is increased to 1,500 CZK
starting the next calendar month.
5. In case of not fulfilling some parts of the individual study plan without serious reasons
(Article 22, Section 4 of the study and examination regulations of the Faculty), revealed
during the outgoing assessment, the Dean can lower the postgraduate scholarship up to 50
percent on the suggestion of the supervisor or the Subject Co-ordinating Board. This
lowering comes into effect the next calendar till the month when the Dean on the
suggestion of the supervisor or the Subject Co-ordinating Board states the new amount of
the scholarship in accordance with Section 3, at the latest till the next assessment.
Article 7
SCHOLARSHIPS SUPPORTING THE STUDY OF FOREIGNERS
1. Conditions for awarding these scholarships are stated in Article 3, Section 2 and their
amounts are specified by the Dean in accordance with the Rector's regulations and
approved by the Academic Senate of the University. These conditions must be in
accordance with Article 23 of the Statute of the Faculty.
Article 8
SCHOLARSHIPS FROM OTHER SOURCES
1. Scholarships from other sources can be awarded to students mainly for extraordinary
study, scientific or artistic results, results in sports, successful representation of the

University and Faculty, and for exemplary civil acts or as extra amounts added to all
scholarships stated in Article 3, Section 1.
2. Scholarships from other sources can be granted to students by the Dean or Rector.
3. The Dean states the conditions for awarding them, the forms, the amounts, and terms of
payment.
4. The Ministry of Education, Youth and Physical Education awards the scholarships under
conditions stated in 91, Section 5 of the Higher Education Act.
Part II
FIRST LEVEL OF PROCEEDINGS
Article 9
SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED ON THE INITIATIVE OF THE DEAN AND THE
RECTOR
1. The Dean awards the scholarships stated in Article 3, Section 1, Letters a) and c) by his
own initiative; by his own initiative he can also award scholarships stated in Article 3,
Section 1, Letter b) and Article 8.
2. If the scholarship is awarded to the student on his own initiative, the proceedings start
after delivering the decision of the Dean concerning the scholarship according to Article
11, Section 3.
3. The Rector awards the scholarships exclusively on his own initiative. The proceedings
start after delivering the decision of the Rector regarding the awarding of the scholarships.
Article 10
SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED ON THE REQUESTS OF STUDENTS BY
DECISION OF THE DEAN
1. The proceedings start on the day when the student hands in a written request for awarding
the scholarship at the Study Division of the Faculty. The request must include all data
necessary for the decision, mainly regarding the type of scholarship, and especially
documents and evidence that are not in the normal study records of the Faculty.

2. If necessary the Dean asks the student to complete the request for awarding the
scholarship or to give necessary explanations. He will state the appropriate time limit for
it.
3. The decision of the Dean is given within 30 days of the beginning of the proceedings; the
time limit according to the Section 2 is not included.
4. The decision of the Dean must be in written form and must include a statement about
granting or withholding the scholarship; in case of awarding its amount, the form and the
terms of payment; or in case of withholding the scholarship, reasons and information
about the possibility to appeal the decision.

Article 11
REVIEW PROCEEDINGS
1. Review proceedings are regulated by Part III of the scholarship regulations of the
University.

COMPLEMENTARY, CORPORATE AND FINAL PROVISIONS
Article 12
COMPLEMENTARY PROVISIONS
1. The decision of the Dean according to Article 11, Section 3 is hand delivered to the
addressee according to Article 31 of the Statute of the Faculty.
2. The decision of the Dean according to Part II and the decision of the Rector in the review
proceedings are marked in the student's records at the Faculty.
3. The decision comes into effect the day after the deadline for requesting a review without
the student making this request or the day after the student has given up the right to make
this request; or the day after the decision of the Rector in the review proceedings is
delivered.

Article 13
CORPORATE AND FINAL PROVISIONS
1. The amounts stated in Article 4, Section 3; Article 5, Section 2 and Article 6, Sections 2
and 3 can be increased according to Article 16, Section 1 of the scholarship regulations of
the University.
2. These regulations were approved by the Academic Senate of the Faculty on May 17, 1999,
and come into effect on the day of the approval of the Academic Senate of the
University.1)
