Lesson Learnt From Transportation and Lifting Operation of Nautica Muar Heavy Structure

This document discusses transportation and lifting lessons learned from past projects. It focuses on the transportation of an EWT module and lifting of a flare tower. For the EWT, transportation was delayed by 2.5 days due to breakdown and incorrect measurements. Lifting of the flare tower was also delayed by 2 weeks as the lifting lugs were fabricated on site instead of beforehand, and lifting began inside the site instead of at the planned location. The document provides details of cargo dimensions, vessels, lifting plans and lessons on ensuring spare parts, accurate measurements, and fabrication considerations are in place.

Introduction

Transportation and lifting study is essential element to ensure safe

handling of properties throughout the operation

Critical lesson learnt during KMSE transportation and lifting campaign

are transportation of EWT and lifting of the flare tower.

Lesson learnt will highlight the processes involved during the

engineering stage and the load out/lifting operation.

EWT transportation
The EWT transportation commence from Westport

Fabrication Yard and transported to West Port Jetty by

Multi Axle Trailer.
At the West Port wharf/jetty 2 units mobile crane was
used for lifting complete with lifting gears according to
lifting plans
The transport route leads from Port Klang through the
Street of Malacca towards MMHE jetty at Pasir
Gudang.

What can we learn from this?

Route survey shall be done as per actual dimension
2. Ensure transporter prepare spare parts for their
equipment along the operation.
3. Selection of fabrication yard must consider the
location of the fabrication yard to the means of
transportation

What can we learn from this?

Install flare tip after completion of installation of flare
tower to ease lifting operation
2. Use crane that able to turn 360 to avoid space limit
3. Reduce crane radius as much as possible to maximize
crane capacity
4. Ensure no additional steel work on the module after load
out from fabrication yard
5. Load out from fabrication yard shall synchronize with
lifting campaign perfectly
