ST. DUNSTANS EPISCOPAL CHURCH LENTEN CHAIN FAST
This year, as in some previous years, St. Dunstans will have a Lenten Chain Fast. It begins on Ash
Wednesday, February 10, and continues until Easter. In this chain, the fast is passed from person to person,
each person fasting for the designated day and then calling the next person on the chain to pass the fast on.
Money that would otherwise be spent on food will then be placed in the collection plate on Sunday and then
donated to the Loaves and Fishes food pantry. You can sign up for this chain either at church or by calling up
the coordinator, Diana Gazis (422-3697) to find a day.
BOWL OF BURDENS
Beginning with Ash Wednesday, February 10th, we go from ordinary time in the church calendar to the
beginning of Lent. This is traditionally a time of prayer in preparation for Easter. Lent is a time to think about
one's life choices and mortality, as well as to reflect on one's life direction. There are no altar flowers,
signifying the solemnity of the season as well as reflecting this cold and quiet time of year when we anticipate
Spring and Jesus' Resurrection from the dead.

Also, the big ceramic bowl filled with rock salt will again be next to the font. We may write our burdens on a
slip of paper and then bury them in the salt as a way of releasing them to God. Immediately following the
Good Friday liturgy, all of these burdens will be burned and thus being transformed into the light of the
Resurrection.
DEADLINE FOR MARCH 15 TURNING POINT IS MARCH 1ST. Please have all articles, photos and
announcements to Ann at [email protected] by March 1st. Thanks!
The Coffee is On!
During Lent, each Sunday is still considered a feast day. During Lent, we break our fast and celebrate. As
part of our celebration and fellowship, coffee hours are able to be continued as usual during this time. Feel
free to sign up to help or to bring in something to share. The ECW will reimburse for receipts up to $25 to
help defray expenses. Please ask Tracy, Leslie or Muffet for further details if needed.
Showing our Hospitality
The Next Step basket for personal care item donations is at the back of the church during Lent. Please
consider donating soap, shampoo, etc. as part of your spiritual practice during this time.
Another Friday Night at the Movies April 15
Ten of us joined together last Friday evening to enjoy pizza and the film A Walk in the Woods. Our next
movie night is Friday, April 15 at 5:30 PM. Pats Pizza will be featured and the movie is yet to be named.
Have any movie ideas? Please let Tracy or Leslie know.
Thank You for Joining the Party! A Note from the Sunday School Children
Thank you to all our church family for joining in last Sundays Celebration Coffee Hour to celebrate the great
news in Matthew 22: 1-10, a parable which told of the king inviting everyone to his sons wedding party
because the first invited refused the invitation. Because of Gods love, He invites us all to be part of His family
and our party was a way to remember that. Special thanks to Liz and Nick Carter and Cheryl Whitney for
their help with the class and preparations. Thanks also to Mother Johanna for making it so fun for us when we
came upstairs to pass out our invitations and party favors.
Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday Expanded Coffee Hour Sign Up Available
An expanded coffee hour will be offered again this year after both the Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday 9 AM
services. If you would like to bring in something to share, please sign up on the bulletin board by the door
downstairs. Suggested items are cold protein, fruit, cheese and baked goods.
Retreat! Retreat!
ECW members are considering a spring retreat after Easter. If you have any suggestions or ideas, please let
Leslie know.
ECW Announces 2016 Christmas Fair Date
At last weeks ECW meeting, the group decided that this years Christmas Fair will be held on Saturday,
November 19 from 9 AM 2 PM. Mark your calendars now to be on hand and help, shop, enjoy and eat! If
you have a vendor suggestion, please let one of the ECW members know. Possible vendors will be discussed
in our April meeting.

IN OUR COMMUNITY:
A note from Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry:
With the sudden dip in temperatures we would like to ask for contributions of warm winter hats for adults
and children. These could be hand knit or new, purchased hats and may be left at the pantry any Monday,
Wednesday or Friday morning until 11 AM. A full tummy and a cozy warm hat can do so much for one's
sense of well being as we face the colder months. Thanks for your help.
Please continue bringing plastic grocery bags and food for the Little Red Wagon. Thanks!
