Contributions To NFI Are Eligible For Tax Relief Under Section 80G of The Income Tax Act

NFI was established in 1992 to help disadvantaged communities in India improve their lives through fundraising and grantmaking. It aims to serve as a model for Indian philanthropy and nation building. However, current philanthropic funds are inadequate to meet needs, so most organizations rely on government or foreign donors. NFI has grown its endowment fund from 14 crores to 25 crores over 10 years and makes annual grants of around 3 crores, but more support is needed to fully achieve its goals. The letter requests financial contributions to support NFI's work in areas like community health, education, livelihoods, and more.

Dear All,

We request you to be a part of NFI’s work towards reducing poverty.

NFI is a national fund raising and grant making organization working

to help disadvantaged communities improve their lives.
It was established in 1992 at the initiative of Late Shri C
Subramanium, Late Dr Kamla Chowdhury and Dr M.S. Swaminathan.

The current level of philanthropic funds available to voluntary

organizations is inadequate to meet their needs. In the absence of
private contributions they have to rely for funds on either
Government or foreign donors, both of which have limitations.
There are very few private grant-making foundations with a corpus
large enough to make a national impact.
There is hardly any communication between donors and
beneficiaries. Consequently there is an absence of a sense of
community and common purpose.

It is these inherent limitations of contemporary

philanthropy as well as potential for success of a new
venture, that provided the rationale for a National
Foundation for India.

NFI support action and communication in

Community Health
Elementary Education
Local Governance
Livelihood Security
Peace and Justice
Citizens and Society
Development Journalism

“ NFI was established ten years ago with a view to serve as a role
model for Indian philanthropy in the field of nation building. It will
be premature to claim that this goal has been achieved. However, I
can legitimately say that we have probably achieved what Mother
Teresa once said that such organizations should aspire to be ‘what

we are doing just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less
because of that missing drop.”
–Dr M.S.Swaminathan (2002)

Since NFI celebrated its tenth year it has been able to grow its
corpus from 14 crores to 25 crores. NFI is making efforts to become
self-reliant and autonomous. Our annual grant making outlays to
the voluntary sector amount to roughly 3 crores annually.

It is you, who can make the difference. Your generous

financial support will light up thousands sad faces, return
smiles to many.

We would greatly appreciate contributions to our Corpus (or

Endowment fund) and program funding. We are happy to provide
any information or assistance that will help you plan your
contribution.
