S+ Operations
Description
Operator effectiveness is fundamental to a plants performance.
However, with fewer plant operators, a generational shift in the
operator workforce, and increasing complexity of plant operations,
it is becoming ever more challenging. S+ Operations intuitive,
easy-to-use human machine interface (HMI) leads operators to
greater awareness, faster response and better decisions.
S+ Operations is designed for high performance in every aspect
involved: human machine interface, integrated operations,
seamless life cycle management, information management, alarm
management, security, process optimization, and flexible, scalable
fault tolerant design.
S+ Operations provides a broad view of the plant by integrating
data from all plant areas and systems, including turbine control,
electrical balance of plant, and remote SCADA systems. Through
its open architecture, S+ Operations seamlessly consolidates and
rationalizes plant data to improve operator response to changing
conditions, resulting in increased plant safety and uptime.
Through integration of traditionally isolated plant devices and
systems, S+ Operations extends the reach of the automation
system to all plant areas. The result is a simplified view of the plant.
Traditionally disparate plant systems and device data are easily
accessed. The resident information is used by control strategies
and higher-level applications to produce tighter, more reliable
process control solutions.
The open architecture design reduces life cycle costs by simplifying
the task of integrating plant systems and devices. Additionally, the
useful life is extended as the open architecture allows the easy
integration of new off-the-shelf applications and products.
S+ Operations system architecture provides flexible and scalable
configurations for small, medium and large process or SCADA
applications.
Basically, S+ Operations is a completely server based system
with every server having its own client included. Additionally,
the complete system is enabled for multi system and multi level
redundancy, thus providing server-less as well as server-based
architecture solutions.
S+Operations
Communication protocols
S+ Operations easily integrates different and heterogeneous
systems and configurations and thus protects the clients
investment. This flexibility is provided by S+ Operations unique
set of integrated interface protocols that enable seamless
operational communication with even the most demanding
controllers.
S+ Operations provides the following protocols:
S+ Control Harmony (INFI 90 (serial/Ethernet CIU))
S+ Control Melody (AC870P)

Tag database
The Tag Database is the primary element for almost all functions
supported by S+ Operations. Each field sensor is associated
with a tag.
Typically, the number of tags in the database is greater than the
total number of field sensors. Calculated tags and lab data entry
tags, etc. are also included in the Tag Database.
The Tag Database includes specific information for each
acquired or calculated digital or process variable. Attributes will
change depending on the type of tag.
Features:
Supports large systems
Up to 512,000 tags per server
256,000 boolean
256,000 non-boolean
Direct tag export from Composer to S+ Operations
Tag types include:

Serverless architecture
Serverless clients are always stand-alone. No interaction
may occur between clients for HSI server functions. However
Symphony Plus History functions can be configured to be on a
single/redundant History server only.
