CORPORATION
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Seed Corporation (KPSC) would be a Public Sector Corporate,
responsible for production and supplies of quality seed to the farming community,
which being a vital input, is a prerequisite for harvesting of a good crop. After
obtaining pre-basic seed from various crop breeders, KPSC will produce basic seed at
its Seed Farms under supervised expertise and arranges for the further multiplication
of those basic seeds with registered growers and private sector seed companies. It
would

also be engaged in the supply/export of certified seed to other provinces/

countries after meeting the requirements of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

MAIN OBJECTIVES
The main objective of KPSC is to produce, process and supply quality/certified seeds
of various crops to the growers at affordable price aimed at to increase per acre
economical yield. KPSC will also collaborate with various crop variety breeders for
carrying out research and development work on new strains and extends requisite
facilities to the concerned breeders for evolving, purifying new/candidate varieties by
way of coordinating for conducting various trials, processing their cases for approval
and production/ multiplication of seed in advance and after approval. The major
objective of KPSC is to meet the 20% of the annual certified seed requirements of
the KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA province in respect of major/important agricultural
crops.

FUNCTIONS
To achieve its objectives, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Seed Corporation would be
engaged in the collection or import of pre-basic seed, production of basic seed,
multiplication of basic seed for the production of certified seeds. Its function would
also include multiplication, procurement, processing, bagging, treating and storage of
certified seed. It will market the certified seed to cope with increased demand of
farming community; KPSC will make appropriate arrangements for the multiplication
of basic seed on private growers farms under its supervision where suitable
arrangements are also made for field inspection and certification of seed at
prescribed National standards. It will make all out efforts to establish and promote
seed industry in the province. To get better quality seed, it will render technical
advice to its registered growers at all stages of crop development, harvesting and
storage, etc. It will also contribute towards the cost of any studies, services, trials/
experiments of technical research connected with the evolution and development of
new varieties.
