everyone, wo shi Cam.
YJ: And wo shi Yajie. We talked about the kitchen yesterday Cam,and we’ll continue more
of that in today’s show.

Key Words of the Day


living room. 客厅(ke4ting1) dining room 餐厅(can1ting1) bedroom 卧室 watering the plants
浇花(jiao1 hua1) cook the breakfast 做早饭 (zuo4 zao3 fan4) I cook breakfast every day. 我
每天都做早饭 (wo3 mei3tian1 dou1zuo4 zao3 fan4) All in today’s Chinese Studio.

YJ: Cam, we learned kitchen yesterday, which is 厨房(chu2 fang2). Now the first new word
today is 客厅(ke4ting1). It means living room.
Cam: 客厅(ke4ting1).
YJ: 客 (ke4) means guest.
Cam: 客 (ke4).
YJ: 厅 (ting 1)means the room,
Cam: 厅 (ting1).
YJ: So 客厅(ke4ting1) literally means the room for guests.
Cam: I see, 客厅(ke4ting1). then what’s the chinese for dining room?
YJ: it’s 餐厅(can1ting1)
Cam: 餐厅(can1ting1)
YJ: 餐(can1), the first tone, means food.
Cam: 餐(can1)
YJ: 餐厅(can1ting1), dining room.
Cam: 餐厅(can1ting1) and also I’d like to know the word for bedroom,
YJ: it’s 卧室 (wo4 shi4).
Cam: 卧室 (wo4 shi4).
YJ: 卧(wo4 ). wo means to lie down,
Cam: 卧(wo4 ).
YJ: 室 (shi4), also means the room,
Cam: 室 (shi4).
YJ: 卧室 (wo4 shi4). bedroom,

Cam: Yajie, I have some plants at my bedroom, and I need to water them each day. How do
you say that in Chinese?
YJ: you can say. 我每天都浇花(wo2 mei3 tian1 dou1 jiao1 hua1)
Cam: 我每天都浇花(wo2 mei3 tian1 dou1 jiao1 hua1)
YJ: wo means i.
Cam: wo.
YJ: 每天 (mei3 tian1), every day.
Cam: 每天 (mei3 tian1).
YJ: 浇花(jiao1 hua1), to water the plants
Cam: 浇花(jiao1 hua1)
YJ: 浇 (jiao1), j-i-a-o, the first tone, means to water.
Cam: 浇 (jiao1)
YJ: 花(hua1), means flower in Chinese. But here it stands for all kinds of plant that you water.
Cam: I see,花(hua1).
YJ: 浇花(jiao1 hua1), to water the plants

YJ: Cam, did you remember we learned how to say “to wash the dishes” in Chinese?
Cam: Yes, it’s 洗碗(xi3 wan3)… I see, 碗(wan3) means bowl in Chinese, of course I need to
wash plates, forks, chopsticks and so on, but wan3 is the general term for dishes.
YJ: very good, Cam! Let’s get back to “I water the plants each day” in Chinese is 我每天都浇
花(wo2 mei3 tian1 dou1 jiao1 hua1)
Cam: 我每天都浇花(wo2 mei3 tian1 dou1 jiao1 hua1)
