Windows Server HyperV As Mission Critical Platform

This document provides a summary of mission critical systems on Hyper-V and comparisons to VMware solutions. It outlines key capabilities of Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V such as supporting up to 64 virtual CPUs and 1TB of memory per virtual machine. Performance tests showed Hyper-V providing high performance for SQL Server, Exchange, and SharePoint workloads. New capabilities in Windows Server 2012 R2 like SMB-based live migration and compression-enabled live migration are highlighted. The document also summarizes high availability and resiliency features of Hyper-V including failover clustering and replication options. Hybrid cloud scenarios and how Hyper-V integrates with Microsoft Azure are briefly described.
