Inderjeet Kang aims to produce 20 key frames for a creative artefact exploring how culture impacts relationships within Asian families from the 1990s to present day. Kang will compare five films that depict cultural clashes in families and how the older and younger generations differ. Kang's story will focus on a Sikh girl and Muslim boy whose relationship causes the girl to run away from home after telling her parents. Kang will use costume, cinematography, and sound to realistically portray the protagonists' emotions and give audiences an understanding of their perspectives. The goal is to have a clear narrative showing how important culture remains in many families today.

Production aim
My aim is to produce 20 key frames for my creative artefact; I will show
ways in which culture has a big impact within Asian families, especially within relationships. I will be focusing particularly on relationships in 1990s to present day. I have already begun an essay, focusing on my five films and how culture clashes amongst the families and what cultural barriers created these clashes. I will be comparing films such as Bend it like Beckham (2002), Bhaji on the beach (1993), Khabi Khushi Khabi Gham (2001), Bride and Prejudice (2004) and East is East (1999). I will be looking at the comparisons and looking into how the families had accepted what was seen to be a disgrace and the differences between the older generation and the younger generation. I will also be looking at microelements, and using them in my own five-minute sequence. I have created a screen test, script, location report and storyboard, which help me slowly getting my ideas together. I have researched further into my chosen films and decided to base my story line on a Sikh girl and a Muslim boy. This follows up with the girl opening up to her parents about the relationship which resulted in her running away from home. My research showed that the films I researched were based upon a girl and boy who each were from different backgrounds. I have decided to choose Muslim and Sikh as this is quite common and have a background history of many conflicts. I looked closely at the costume that the girls wore in Bhaji on the Beach and it showed how although the protagonist wore westernised clothing, there were elements of her traditional side, such as her earrings, I will take mise en scene into careful consideration. I have therefore decided to make one of the protagonist to be from a Pakistani background and the other to be from a Sikh background. While researching into my five chosen films I discovered that the girls are often shown to look innocent and shown to already know what they want to do with their lives. My aim is to have a clear narrative and show the audience how culture is important in many families. I will have to carefully use mise en scene and especially costume I intend to have the girl dressed in a traditional and western clothes, this will be shown by her wearing a chunni, jeans and a top. This will show Raj to be from a traditional family and show the audience why her parents are against their daughter marrying someone from a different religion. Ensuring that I carefully plan on the cinematography I will make sure that I carefully show the protagonists emotions by their facial expressions and

body language. Although I have done 20 key frames, if I was to make a 5
minute film sequence I would have used different instruments. I would have non-diegetic sound, however have a piano and drum noise in the background creating sadness and tension. My main aim is to ensure that the audience feel what both the protagonist are feeling and to have an understanding, ensuring that it seems realistic I would have more nature sound within my 5 minute sequence.
