James Bond : Casino Royale
Casino Royale was, in my opinion and also in many other
peoples eyes, the best Bond film that has so far been created.
Not only did Daniel Craig melt the hearts of so many women
around the world, but he showed he can take on the character
of 007 very well with the suave and sophisticated nature.
The director of the film who is Martin Campbell starts the
ball rolling with a bone crunching, deathless and defying chase
through a building site, a very impressive start showing stunts
never even thought of before. The film immediately starts with
an electric shock of sheer excitement. Focusing therefore on the
direction of the film, Martin Campbells second James Bond film
was definitely a credit to the long list of very famous films
during a long career spanning over forty years. I also think that
the director has definitely made it his own creation as the film is
so much different from all the others.
Looking t the acting ability in the film I thought it was very
good which is a lucky as a large proportion of the actors and
actresses were not completely known in the world of acting, an
interesting move as all the James Bond films are so prestigious.
For example Eva Green who played Vesper Lynd, a French
actress knew to a James Bond style of acting. Jumping to Daniel
Craig where some people are saying he is the best James Bond
that has ever been is, in my opinion no overstatement as I
would definitely say it is a close call between him and Roger
Moore. Daniel Craig is able to demonstrate a very good Bond
and someone who looks so different ( a blonde Bond ) to all the
other Bonds there has been works well with his rugged
personality and such a high standing in the world of young
females. The villain of the film played by Mads Mikklsen was
superb as he underplayed the character which worked well as

he was made simple and easy to watch which then accentuates

the pure evil that the character exudes to make him look a lot
worse.
Daniel Craig very quickly develops a fiery chemistry with
his co-star which unwraps to a very interesting point after a
certain scene which takes place in a shower. The pair is almost
a perfect choice in their different acting style where Craig
contributed a smooth and sleek style of acting an essential
requirement and Eva Green a very tidy and sexy style making a
very impressive duo laying the foundation of a good film.
Something that did catch my though was the unfortunate
absence of Q which was a shame as he showed a different side
to the film and also to give you a rest from the action packed,
adrenaline filled main story line.
In my opinion I think that some particularly key and
impressive scenes need to be mentioned as they contribute
hugely to the massive success and quality of the brilliant film.
Firstly I think there are four major sections and scenes worth
mentioning. The first one is an early scene immediately starting
with a chase in to a building site over scaffolding, buildings and
cranes it shows that Bond although accomplished at these sort
of chases is perhaps a little messy when he jumps from building
to building and crane to crane which is good as it adds a comic
aspect to the film. The scene gets the level of excitement
almost to a bursting point with the breath taking stunts and
action packed moves. The second scene is the terrorist attempt
on blowing up a plane a at the airport witch I think it was a risky
move putting it in to the film with the political situation of this
kind going on around the world at the moment. However, I think
the scene was easily one of the best in the whole film. It kept
you during the whole section on the edge of your seat as you
watch planes, cars, people and everything else coming within
millimetres of disaster but once again like a true Bond film 007
saves the day as always happens. During the scene a fuel
tanker has a bomb attached to it and curers towards a brand
new plane while avoiding police cars and other obstacles except
of 007 whom at the last second saves the day and the terrorist
ends up dying along with no one else. The third is only focused
on one stunt, but it is definitely an impressive one which made
its way in to the Guinness book of world records! The stunt is a
section of a scene in which Daniel Craig is speeding down a
road in an Astor Martin, however to his great surprise Vesper

Lynd has been tied up in the middle of the road and cant move
so she is waiting to be killed, but as always James Bond sees
her just in time and swerves to avoid his co-star on to a field
where he does numerous rolls in the car making it the most
impressive stunt in the film by far and obviously making it one
of the most expensive to ans also resulting in a wrecked Aston
Martin which would of again added some pounds to the bill.
Fourth is a very nervous part, not from action, but when
something you never believe would ever happen in a Bond film
is when Bond drinks a spiked drink which no one would ever
expect in a film like this in a million years. The section becomes
very tense when you wonder what the outcome will be as it
looks very bad for Bond especially when he falls unconscious
when he is trying to revive himself but a wave of relief sweeps
over you when Lynd comes to the rescue and he lives on to
finish the game of cards in the casino much to Le Chiffres
surprise and disappointment.
An essential in a good film in whatever kind of film it is
would be the costumes. This is because it gives the film a bit of
class and also helps you to understand the characters a lot
more. On the whole, the costumes of the actors did help a lot
with the film and it made especially Daniel Craig and Eva Green
look very impressive and also sexy especially Eva Greens
dress which she wears in the casino scene at the hotel. Also the
costume of the Le Chiffre, a black suit, was very simple and also
suited to his character in the way he acted in a simple and
underplayed way which was an unusual move for a villain in a
Bond film, but worked well and this looked particularly
impressive when he was in a scene with his hench woman who
was looking particularly impressive. You begin to notice a trend
in the bad guys who are often seen wearing black clothes as a
sort of uniform to the side in witch they are on.
Something that made the film stand out at the end is the
ending which is very unusual. In any film you expect, especially
in a Bond film, a happy ending which finishes after the main
action film and Bond has saved the day, therefore you expect
the film to end shortly after the torture scene when Le Chiffre is
dead. However the film carries on to show that Lynd was in fact
not completely true to Bond when he finds out that she has
stolen the gambling winnings which never went into the
treasury.

After an upbeat action scene where Bond kills a few

henchmen at the building which was going under renovation,
begins to collapse into the Grand Canal in Venice where Lynd
gets into an elevator where a very bad section starts where she
tearfully apologizes to Bond and locks herself into the rising
water. Bond eventually gets her out, but attempts to make her
breathe are unsuccessful and she dies. This is not an ending
you expect and although the films ending is not the happiest,
the mood is able to lift slightly and in hindsight the ending did
work well.
In conclusion to the quality of James Bond : Casino Royale,
I thought it was an outstanding movie with one of the best or
maybe even the best bond there has ever been. The acting was
superb and the contrast between the villain and the good guys
works well and although this film is different to many of the
other bond films, it makes Casino Royale unique and
outstanding with an impressive co-star to Bond (Eva Green) who
has an extraordinary acting ability and looks fabulous. Also the
villain of the film, Le Chiffre, played by Mads Mikkelsen , making
it superb and impressive to watch. The film had absolutely
everything jam packed into it with adrenaline packed action,
romance, comedy, raunchiness and tear jerking scenes which is
everything that makes Bond films so terrific.
