Field Of Dreams!
Season nine over, and the amazing, whirlwind of a journey continues. Little did I know
when Wendy, Andy, Pete and myself started this venture in May 2001 that we would tap
into such a deep well of need and support. The community need to be part of a local
sports Club has driven our numbers beyond what the ground will readily sustain so that
we are now hosting some of our 220 members at other venues in the area. As for support,
we really could not have served our increasing membership so well without the help and
commitment of so many fantastic volunteers. I salute and thank each and everyone of you.
You are Derry Hill United.

With the opening of our fabulous Clubhouse it feels like much of the journey has been completed, but I am
sure we will continue to face challenges and seek opportunities in the next stage of our development.. In the
meantime our plan is to continue to focus on doing what we do well; organization, participation and
facilitation, and to enhance those areas which increase our players’ understanding and knowledge of the
game. If you are not currently involved with the Club but have a couple of hours a week to help us develop
and support our members better please get in touch. Your offer of time and support will be most welcome
by all of us. Together we can offer more and further improve the breadth and depth of opportunity and activity
we offer our young members.

This season also saw the successful completion of our work to become an FA Charter Standard Community
Club. This is the FA’s highest Charter Mark and I’m proud to tell you that you are a member of one of only
three within Wiltshire. Here is what the FA say about Club’s who have received this award “The FA
Community Club scheme builds upon the foundations of the Charter Standard scheme in placing clubs at
the heart of their community. Community Clubs, the pinnacle of the club development pathway, will be
those that have a high quality, multi-team set up with excellent social, training and playing opportunities
for all”. This is a tremendous and well deserved acknowledgement and award for all those who give so
much to make the Club a great place for children to practice and play football.

On another note I am delighted to inform you that three of our squads; the Fire, Flames and Blaze, each
received this season’s Mid-Wilts Youth and Minor League Fair Play Award. This accolade recognizes each
squad’s outstanding commitment to fair play and sportsmanship throughout the season and is awarded to
the team with the most appropriate behaviour, as voted by their peers, from across the whole of the age
group. My congratulations go to the players, parents and officials of these squads. Well done all.

Next season’s annual subscription is due at the last training session of the season, Saturday 22nd May, when
‘Sign-On’ day takes place at Bowood Sports Ground. You will need to renew your membership on this day
to maintain your place at the Club. Due to much effort and diligence from those involved with setting last
season’s budget we have estimated our newly acquired running costs accurately and as a result I am
delighted to inform you we will be holding all membership and League fees at the same level as last season.
Please see the schedule of charges for more detail. We do hope, that like us, you consider your fees great
value for money offering access to over 30 training sessions, League and Cup matches, as well as the
opportunity to attend and be involved with many other Club events that run throughout a season which runs
from September to June.

Finally, I hope that you have all enjoyed taking part in Club activities this season, whether it be playing,
coaching or watching. Formal Club training will cease on the 23rd May, with our End Of Season Presentation
and BBQ taking place on Saturday 19th June. I’d like to wish you a restful and enjoyable summer, and look
forward to seeing you at Bowood Sports Ground on Saturday 4th September for the start of a new season.
