Ship Models: LNG / LPG Carriers Tankers Bulk Carriers

The Maritime Simulation Institute in Newport, RI maintains a fleet of visual and hydrodynamic ship models representing various commercial and military vessels. Their commercial models include tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, car carriers, ferries, cruise ships, tugs, barges, and yachts of all types and sizes. Their military models represent US Navy and Coast Guard ships. They can create models for any existing, planned, or conceptual vessel using available data and ship prints. Each model is developed using advanced hydrodynamic modeling to accurately simulate ship behavior based on sea trials.

Ship Models

Maritime Simulation Institutes learning center in Newport, RI maintains a fleet of visual and hydrodynamic ship models. The Maritime Simulation Institute
commercial fleet contains almost every type and size of commercial vessel from yachts to Very Large Crude Carriers to tugs (conventional and Z drive) and
barges, both ocean going and inland. The Maritime Simulation Institute military fleet has a full complement of commissioned US Navy warships and two US Coast
Guard cutters.
Maritime Simulation Institute can prepare a model for any ship, whether the ship already exists, is being built, or is merely a future concept. Our staff
hydrodynamicist and center level ship modelers make maximum use of all available hydrodynamic data and, in most cases, actual ship prints to achieve the most
realistic behavior possible for each ship model. Each hydrodynamic model is developed with six-degrees-of-freedom in a nonlinear mathematical simulation using
46 separate hydrodynamic terms. These coefficients are then adjusted to match sea trial and tank test data for the particular ship. Working with masters and pilots
familiar with the individual ship type, the Maritime Simulation Institute team validates the ship model under various load and sea conditions before it is used for
training or operational research.
Although Maritime Simulation Institute can build any ship, many times we already have a model of the ship a client desires to use for training or research. In that
case, the time and cost of preparation and testing can be saved. Specific ship specifications can be obtained from any Maritime Simulation Institute learning
center.
We have validated ship response models for the following types:

Tankers - 12,000 to 325,000 DWT

Containerships - up to 6,600 TEU
Bulk Carriers - 30,000 to 150,000 DWT
Tugs and Barges, and tractor tugs - Inland and Ocean Going
LNG/LPG Carriers up to 264,000 M3
