Aims:
After a seminar and computer exercises we will conduct gravity measurements at the
already existing stations of the Geodetic Survey of South Tyrol based in Bozen/Bolzano.
Due to the educational character of the summer school we will focus on the
observations of approximately 2000 stations, the exact number being dependant on the
ambient conditions; it is our hope to continue with this combination of theoretical and
practical education in the next two years.
The course will be organized in close cooperation with the Department of cadastre of
the region South Tyrol - Trentino (Amt fr geodtische Erhebungen im Gebiet der
Provinz Bozen der Region Trentino-Sdtirol; Ufficio per il rilevamento geodetico in
provincia di Bolzano" della Regione Autonoma Trentino- Alto Adige; Geom. Di Girolamo,
Bozen) and with the Regional Planning Department of the Provinz Bozen (Amt fr
berrtliche Raumordnung, Autonome Provinz Bozen, Ufficio coordinamento territoriale,
Provincia Autonoma Bolzano; Dr. Zanvettor). We will access to information and meta
information of the points which are already layed out in the region (points maps and
coordinates in form of copies; number of copies equals the number of gravity meters to
be used in the course), and to the "25 m DEM" for the purpose of topographic
reductions of field measurements. Field procedure for gravity readings is layed out in
a way that all observations are parts of a loop which enables us to calculate drift
corrections and effects of earth tides. Both error analysis and map compilation will be
part of the course data processing. All results will be transferred to both departments
after a final evaluation.
We expect approximately 30 participants from Italy, Germany, Austria and Slovak
Republic, in particular participants at a graduate and post graduate level of geophysics,
physics and geology.
