Expand brackets step by step not by FOIL or similar methods
(2a 3b)(a +4b) = 2a(a+4b) 3b(a+4b)
= 2a 2 + 8ab 3ab - 12b 2
= 2a 2 + 5ab - 12b 2

3a - 2b a 2 - 4ab + b 2 3a a 2 - 4ab + b 2 2b a 2 - 4ab + b 2


= 3a 3 - 12a 2 b +3ab 2 - 2a 2 b +8ab 2 -2b 3
