A) Agreements and Disagreements in Attitudes

This document discusses the differences between attitudes and beliefs. Attitudes are defined as a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically reflected in behavior. Beliefs involve trust or confidence placed in someone or something. Disagreement in attitudes occurs when people have attitudes or interests that cannot all be jointly satisfied. Disagreement in beliefs happens when people have beliefs that cannot all be true and neither wants to accept the other's belief without challenge. Agreement in attitudes is when interests can be jointly satisfied, and agreement in beliefs is when beliefs can all be true or neither wants them to necessarily align.

a) Agreements and Disagreements in Attitudes

Disagreement in attitude occurs when two or more people have attitudes or interestsi.e.,
desires, feelings, attitudes, plans, intentions, or other affective psychological states whose general nature
is that of being for or being against something - that cannot all be jointly satisfied (had, felt, etc.) and
there is a desire, need, or attempt to coordinate those interests. By implication, interpersonal agreement
in attitude occurs when two or more people have attitudes that can all be jointly satisfied or when there
is no desire, etc. for them to be all satisfied, and personal certainty in attitude occurs when an
individual has settled on, or has no desire to settle on, how to feel or what to do about a particular object
or event.
b) Agreements and Disagreements in Beliefs
Disagreement in belief occurs when two or more people have beliefs that cannot all be true and neither
is content to let the belief of the other remain unchallenged that is, when at least one party desires, needs,
or attempts to coordinate, or make consistent, those beliefs. Agreement in belief occurs when two or more
people have beliefs that can all be true or, if they cannot all be true, have no desire, etc. for them to be so
