Solar Panel Installation
Solar Panel Installation
Prepared by

ABSTRACT
This project aims to help reduce the energy consumption and dependence upon
the NORECO in Purok Yakal, Tubtubon Sibulan. This would also create convenience
regarding the usage of appliances in a household and make the community more ecofriendly institution. We propose the installation of solar panels in the said Purok to be
able to set an example and solution not just to the minor problems, but also to the rising
price of electricity in our community. This would set an example and give out a great
chance to see and experience the beauty of using solar panels and wherein they will be
able to not just observe such usage but also control it and someday, use more of it and be
a witness to its help in our environment.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Introduction
Electricity has been a problem to the people of Purok Yakal. Most of them pay
high electricity bills because of the increasing electricity rates in which they spend more
than their estimated budget. There are several reasons why a particular household
consumes more electricity. One of the possible reasons is the over usage of some
appliances in home which can consume more electricity beyond the normal usage.
To address this problem to the community, the researchers proposed to install
solar panels to be placed specifically in the rooftop of a respective house in Purok Yakal,
Sibulan. Adding to these benefits, solar panels are eventually environmental-friendly that
will create and supply electricity by converting solar energy into electrical energy. It will
create an independent power source and minimize the expenses.
The selection of this area has been based on the fact that people on the said Purok
almost pay high electricity bills and most household suffers electrical disturbances due
their location. The installation of solar panel system helps a lot into the community
especially to the household as for them to save electricity. Its installation would also give
additional credit to the beauty of the range of installation as a whole, especially to the
consumers, for it would give them a satisfaction.
Scope:
Discussed in this project proposal are the following, and in this order:
7
labor?
How long does it take to install a solar panel?
Delimitations:
Since the report will concentrate on the installation of solar panel, it does not include the
following:
researching in the Internet for information regarding the size of solar panels,
materials, the process on how solar power energy work, the installation of solar
panels, the estimated budget of the materials and labor in installing solar panel
Glossary:
AC Alternating Current
DC Direct Current
Photovoltaic is capable of producing a voltage when exposed to radiant energy,
especially light.
Solar Module - is an individual solar panel consisting of multiple solar cells, wiring, a
frame, and glass.
Findings:
Site Location for Installing Solar Panels
Figure 2
Figure 2 shows the birds eye view of our project proposal. We created a threedimensional graphic of the rooftop of a house with a solar panel already installed. We did
not fully recreate a 3D design of the whole house because the parts of it except the
rooftop are insignificant to our proposal.
Figure 3
Figure 3 shows the top view of the house with the solar panel already mounted.
11
Figure 4
Figure 4 is a semi-top and semi-front view of the rooftop of a house. Solar panels
should face on where the equator is (Llorens, n.d.). Since the Philippines is slightly above
the equator, in our proposal we just designed a solar panel to face upward so that it is sure
to catch sunlight at any time of the day. If the solar panel were to be placed flat
diagonally on the roof facing south (since the equator is at the south), there may be a
chance that the solar panel cannot catch sunlight when the sun sets.
Figure 5
Figure 5 shows a close-up view of the mounted solar panel. As seen in the figure
the solar panels are 58.3 inches long and 39.1 inches wide. They are attached to the roof
by steel brackets painted red to match the color of the roof.
Schematic Diagram
12
Figure 6 shows the Schematic Diagram of the Solar Panel. The energy is
harnessed from the solar panel through sunlight, the panel is placed where direct sunlight
can be provided. It then converts sunlight into electricity, when sunlight strikes the panel
it makes the electrons move, creating a DC current within the panel. The controller now
controls the current that passes from the panel to the battery.
module for our project. The ND 187U1 solar module is a large flat rectangle which is
58.3 inches long and 39.1 inches wide.
Figure 7
Figure 7 shows the layout of series connected solar module with parts labelled.
Solar Generator
A solar generator converts solar energy to electrical energy. It is made up of a
deep cycle battery which collects energy from the solar panels to produce a direct current,
or DC. It also has a built-in inverter to convert DC into an alternating current (AC)
because most appliances use AC (Flynn, 2015). In our project, we have canvassed a
Portable Power Solar Generator with Built-in Inverter. The generator already includes an
inverter and generates 500 watts. It also has a 12v and a 230v input so that you can
charge it either through solar energy, battery, or electrical energy directly from the outlets.
14
Angle Bracket
According to American Heritage Dictionary, an angle bracket is an L-shaped
metal used as a structural support. In our project, the IronRidge XR100 Racking System
for 72 Cell Modules is used to support the solar panels. Since the panels are placed at the
tip of the roof, brackets are placed at every corner of the panel to prevent it from sliding
to either side. An angle bracket that is made up of different components is shown in
Appendix A (page 23).
15
Figure 8
Figure 8 shows how the solar panels are connected. The solar panel systems are
made of four parts: the solar panels, the inverter, the controller and the battery (Solar
Power The Facts about Setting up Solar Power, 2012). In our project, the inverter, the
controller and the battery can already be found in a single solar generator. In our case, the
solar panels are directly connected to the generator which would work depending on the
intensity of the source and would be able to generate 1000w in every generator. The
panels also have wattage of 100w each and the generators can accommodate up to 4
panels. Appliances then are connected to the generator.
16
According to Maehlum, it will take 3 days for installing 20 solar panels worth 3
kilowatts. Wiring the connections will take a bit longer than mounting the panels
(Maehlum, 2014). In our project proposal, we only plan to install 1 solar panel per house
where in the schedule will take a short time although we gave an allowance of time just
in case if needed.

Conclusions
It can help the government to produce more energy and to address the problem of
62,965.78 pesos solar energy package weve discovered during our research.
Since the price of energy now is sky rocketing, it is best to find an alternative
source of energy which is efficient, eco-friendly, and cheap. With our environment
not getting any cooler, why not take advantage from it? Solar energy is the best
example for this. It will take advantage of the suns rays to collect energy needed
electricity generated from power plants are expensive while solar energy is free.
Solar panels last long, so a household will definitely gain back their investment
and even benefit a lot more.
Recommendations
We recommend the residence of Purok Yakal to install the solar energy panel for it
will
In fact in the first installation it is expensive but in the long run you can already
save money and help energy conservation.
