Engine and Transmission: Maximum Gear Ratio

The document discusses the engine, transmission, and drivetrain specifications for a vehicle. The objective is to provide maximum power from the engine to the wheels to meet various event requirements, while providing smooth vehicle control. A Briggs & Stratton 10hp engine with 18.66Nm maximum torque at 2600rpm is used. A rear-wheel drive is chosen with a CVT transmission and double step chain-sprocket reduction to decrease weight and turning radius. A helical limited slip differential is selected to maximize traction. The CVT has a maximum gear ratio of 1628.886 and efficiency of 0.75. The transmission allows a maximum acceleration of 4.67m/s2 and top speed under 60kph.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

ObjectiveThe main motive of the drivetrain is

To run the vehicle as per event

requirement such as Endurance,
Gradiability ,Acceleration etc
To get maximum power all the
time from the engine and transfer
torque to the wheel in optimized
way such that it is suitable for all
the events.
Provide smooth control of the
vehicle means less driver fatigue.

Transmission Methodology:
Max vehicle speed should be under
60kmph.
We opted for a rear wheel drive
(RWD) system after noticing the
maximum tractive effort available.
The power source should be chosen
such that it should provide high
torque at low rpm and peak power
at high rpm.

We tried our best to decrease the

overall weight of the vehicle by using
CVT and
double step chain-sprocket
reduction.
We also assembled engine at a height
above the chassis base such that the
decrease in rear chassis length helps
in decreasing turningradius.
We also opted for Sprocket driven
helical limited slip differential in
order to get maximum traction at the
wheel such that vehicle should not get
stuck at any terrain.
