Work Measurement Sample (Coding Ans)

This document provides 5 examples of motions coded using MTM (Methods-Time Measurement) symbols along with the normal time in TMUs and seconds for each motion. It also includes reach and move tables from MTM as supplementary information. The examples give the motion description and coded symbol for reaching and moving objects of different distances and weights by hand. Times range from 0.21 to 1 second for the various single motions described.

CODE & / or DE-CODE the following. (Nb: distance in inches & weight in pounds)
1. A worker seated at a table performs a hand motion forward to an object. The
sought after object is jumbled with other objects in a tote pan, and the
distance of motion is 18 inches. Determine the MTM symbol and normal time in
TMUs and seconds for this motion.
[R18C = 18.4 TMUs = 0.66 sec.]
2. Reach 8 inches Case C
[R8C = 11.5 TMUs = 0.41 sec.]
3. R12Am
[8.1 TMUs = 0.29 sec.; Reach 12 inches to object in a fixed location or to object
in other hand or which other hand rests on. Hand is in motion at the end of
Reach]
4. mM6B2.5m
[5.7 TMUs = 0.21 sec.; Hand is in motion at the beginning of move. Object
weighing 2.5 lbs. moves 6 inches to other hand or against a stop. Hand is in
motion after object is dropped / placed]
5. M16B15
[27.82 (24.09) TMUs = 1 (0.88) sec.; Object weighing 15 lbs. moves 16 inches to
an approximate or indefinite location]
