Polon

Sealing Solutions
Based on PTFE

Whenever minimum friction and

maximum media resistance are
called for, there is practically no
alternative compound to PTFE.

Flexiseals
spring-loaded PTFE seals
U and V packing rings made of Polon with
integrated stainless steel spring as a pre-loading
element.

But: PTFE is not rubber-elastic and,

therefore, cannot achieve the dynamic
sealing properties of an elastomer
seal. The higher volume of drag oil
must be collected and returned by
means of an appropriate engineering
design.

For static, translational and rotary applications

in aggressive media and at temperatures from
- 50 to + 225 C.
For seals subjected to reciprocating motion
depending on the lubricating conditions
speeds of up to 20 m/s and of up to 4 m/s in
case of rotations are permissible.

Moreover: pure PTFE has a high rate

of wear with a cold flow tendency
when subjected to high mechanical
stress. Therefore taking advantage of
the particular strengths offered by
PTFE requires complex know-how.
Specifically: proper compound modifications, selection of suitable bonding
compounds and material-specific integration of the design into the system.
In summary: comprehensive expertise
transcending the specific know-how
of individual application fields.

Polon PTFE

Standard and special seals

made of Polon
Sliding seals made of modified
PTFE with an elastic pre-loading
element for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders for applications requiring particularly low starting and
motion friction.
Lip and flange seals, special profiles for automotive, chemical and
food processing applications.

Polon

The Polon compound

benefits:

Parker has mastered the art of special

compounding and thus the adaptation
of the physical PTFE compound properties to specific application conditions. In particular, improvements and
optimisations include:

Temperature resistance
Continuous service at temperatures
up to +260C. PTFE maintains
residual flexibility at -269 C, the
vaporization point of helium.

Enhancement of pressure resistance

Reduction of friction and wear
Increase of stability and hardness
As well as inherent thermal stability.

For use in PTFE products, Parker has

developed its own Polon compounds.
Polon stands for comprehensive
know-how in PTFE technology.

Media resistance
Resistant to virtually any known
chemical.
Low friction
With the static and sliding friction
coefficients being nearly equal, PTFE
applications offer the extremely useful
benefit of eliminating the hazardous
stick-slip-effect with almost absolute
certainty.
Precise adherence to tolerances
Precision-finishing technology
ensures adherence to extremely
small tolerance parameters.

Guiding elements
Guiding elements serve to prevent
metallic contact between pistons
and cylinders in case of laterally
acting forces.
PTFE guiding tapes with bronze
or carbon additives, available by
the metre or cut to users specifications.
