From the Pastor: Rev. Daryl W. Allen INSIDE THIS ISSUE

Greetings Brothers and Sisters! From the Pastor 1

How many of you have heard the phrase or seen the bumper stickers that say some- Financial Report 2

is an important aspect of our walk with Christ. It is the link, the bridge, the channel by 3

God. It needs to be a two way experience; we talk and then we listen. Prayer is very
important to me. It is foundational for my life and my ministry. So for the next several Calendar 5
months, during worship, we are going to focus on prayer; what it is, a few methods for
how to practice it, and the results that will happen when you do it earnestly.
Here is a sneak preview of the sermon series outlines for the next several months.
When looking at prayer, a good place to start is with the prayer that Christ taught the
disciples. Therefore, our first series will be a five week series on the Lord's Prayer.
Each week, we will take a portion of this prayer and unpack what we are truly saying
when we pray this prayer. Next, we will dive into a three week study on the discipline
of prayer and discuss the impact it has on our soul, the people around us, and how we 06/08 Mary Ann & Allen
can work together in this discipline. After that, we will begin a four week study about Lamb
what prayer is; its presence, its role as an invitation, how it works to remove certain 06/25 Doris & Bill Pitts
barriers, and why listening is part of it. Finally, we will conclude this focus with a four
week study on the Prayer of Jabez as we examine what these two verses in I Chronicles
have to say to us today.
Sometimes prayer gets relegated to what we do when we are in trouble, or overloaded
and then laid aside while life is good. And this does not happen only to bad people, it
happens to every single one of us. In our last Bible Study, we looked at the different
world religions with several goals in mind. One was to help us better understand the
beliefs of others so we could interact intelligently with them. But another was to see 06/01 Mary Richardson
what aspects of their spiritual disciplines we might be able to adopt as our own. One of 06/03 Raymond Dyer

“DID YOU KNOW….”

One of the apportionments we support is the MINISTRIAL EDUCATION FUND (MEF). This fund helps re-
cruit and train effective United Methodist Ministers and is an essential element of assuring high-quality, well-
prepared clergy for the United Methodist Church.

We have thirteen United Methodist seminaries that are crucial to the future of the United Methodist Church as
they partner with the local church to help men and women respond to God’s call to full time, vocational minis-
try. Supporting MEF helps provide churches with pastoral leaders who work to meet the daily needs of the
churched and unchurched in their community.

As for the fund itself, each annual conference retains 25% of the amount received for the MEF apportionment
in order to provide direct financial aid for theological training to those in their own conference. The remaining
75% goes to the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry where 63% is sent to our 13 United Meth-
odist Seminaries.

Early Morning Prayer of Thanksgiving Evening Prayer of Thanksgiving

Eternal God, hallowed be your name. As you have made this day, O God,
Early in the morning, before I begin my work, you also make the night.
I praise your glory. Give light for my comfort.
Renew my body as fresh as the morning flowers. Come upon me with quietness and still my soul.
Open my inner eyes, as the sun casts new light that I may listen for the whisper of your Spirit
upon the darkness. and be attentive to your nearness in my dreams.
Deliver me from all captivity. Empower me to rise again in new life to proclaim your

give me wings of freedom to begin a new journey.
As a mighty stream running continuously,
restore justice and freedom day by day.
I thank you for the gift of this morning,
and a new day to work with you.
Stir up in me the desire to serve you,
to live peacefully with my neighbors,
and to devote each day to your Son,
my Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen

Mid-Morning Prayer of Thanksgiving

God of Mercy, this midday moment of rest
is your welcome gift.
Bless the work I have begun, make good its defects,
and let me finish it in a way that pleases you.
Grant this through Christ my Lord. Amen.

Mid-Day Prayer of Thanksgiving

In the brightness of your Son I spend each day;
Always you protect me with the umbrella of your love.
Grant me the strength to finish this day strong, and bring you the glory.
To you, God, be all praise and glory forever & ever. Amen.

Early-Evening Prayer of Thanksgiving

I praise and thank you, O God,
for you are without beginning and without end.
Through Christ, you created the whole world;
through Christ, you preserve it.
You made the day for the works of light
and the night for the refreshment
of my mind and body.
Keep me now in Christ; grant me a peaceful evening,
a night free from sin;
and bring me at last to eternal life.
Through Christ and in the Holy Spirit,
I offer you all glory, honor, and worship,
now and for ever. Amen.
