India defeated Ireland 3-2 in a men's field hockey match at the Rio Olympics. India took an early lead on goals by VR Raghunath and Rupinder Pal Singh in the first and second quarters. Ireland scored in the third to make it 2-1, but Rupinder Pal Singh added his second to make it 3-1. Ireland scored again late in the third, but India held on for the victory. This was India's first men's field hockey win at the Olympics in 12 years. Their next match will be against Germany on August 8th.
