Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs:


A student may be provided additional time if they need. Students with special needs may also require a special education teacher,
paraprofessional, or teacher beside them to walk them through the process. Students with special needs may also be given
frequent breaks if needed.

Enrichment Techniques:
The students can upload their graph on to the classes website if they have extra time and choose to.

Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students have access to and are able
to participate in the lesson):
If a student requires additional assistance, a special education teacher, paraprofessional, or peer will be assigned to help them.
The student may be provide additional time to complete the assignment. A paper copy of the rubric will be given to the student
prior to starting the lesson.
Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will collect data on all of the students (by age, hair color, eye color, or gender, etc..). The class will create an Excel
graph based on the information collected.

Detailed Teaching Sequence:


(Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted statements are preferred)
The students will view the Excel tutorial.
The teacher will give each student a city.
The teacher will explain to the class that everyone will create a graph based on the amount of precipitation that city received in the
last year.
The students will log in to their computer.
The teacher will ask if there are any questions.
The teacher will give the students time to look through newspapers and the internet to collect data.
The teacher will walk around to make sure the students are on task and assist with any questions.
The teacher will guide the student to Excel.
The teacher will provide directions for how to put the information in to Excel.
After the students have the data in Excel, the teacher will show the students how to design a graph.
The students will be given time to design the graph using the design tab in Excel.
The students will save their work on their USB key.
The class will return to the classroom.
Each student will take a turn and present their graph and data to the class.

Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities


The students will work independently to gather data using newspapers and the internet to find how much precipitation their
assigned city received in the last year. The students will work independently to input the data and create a graph. The students
will design the graph and present the data to the class. The students will complete a self assessment using the rubric provided.

Closure:
The students will open their graph on the classroom computer, using their USB key. The students graph will then appear on the
projector for the class to view. The student will present the data they collected. After each student has presented their work, the
students will complete a self assessment using the teacher created rubric.
