What evidences have scientist gathered that point to the fact of human
evolution?
Scientists have gathered a whole lot of evidences that concerns human
evolution. Most of these evidences were the fossils from our great ancestors.
However, these fossils werent the only evidences of human evolution. The
environment that these fossils were found and the ancient tools that emerged as
our great ancestors evolved as time passed by are also part of these evidences.
The earliest form of human evolution that the scientist had discovered was
Selam an Australopithecus afarensis child. She lived three and a half millions of
years ago and is known to be in the same species as the famous Lucy. She revealed
an almost complete skull which is a major contribution to the study of the origins of
human evolution. This also includes how Lucy and Selam walked upright due to their
anatomy or bone structure.
Scientist discovered the first stone tools which are used two million years
ago. However, they thought that these tools were not actually made and used by
Lucys kind, and that more evolved creatures that are far more advanced than her is
involved. These evolved creatures are called the Homo habilis. They were known as
critical thinkers and the very first tools makers in the history of human evolution.
Moreover, in this phase of evolution, the face of a human is slowly surfacing.
After thousands of years, Africa experienced multiple climate change which
highly affected the environment of the place. Since our great ancestors resided in
that area, they were also forced to adapt to their surroundings inorder to survive.
Because of this, they theorized that this is the driving force of evolution, and for
those who couldnt adapt to the quick change of climate were inevitable to death.
Homo erectus is the next inline of the human evolution. They are pioneered
to be what it means to be humans and are known to be the first fire makers and
hunters. The Leaky family discovered the earliest Homo erectus called Turkana boy
who had lived around one and a half million years ago. His bones were close to
completion which contributed a lot in the study of human evolution for he showed
the transition from ape to human. This includes their way of living like how they
hunt for food, and how they started to socialize with others.
The next set of hominids travelled to the place named Europe. These
hominids are called Neanderthals who had lived for a total of four hundred thousand
years. Their remains are found in northern Spain in the end of the huge labyrinth
inside a cave. However, it was not only a single skeleton that they had found but a
huge number of them and since all of the skeletons of these humans were
complete, they believed that they were put intentionally by their kin. They also
discovered several of things from studying these species, like they have their own
kind of symbolic behavior, their daily diet, and their tools in hunting.
In the cave in Africa, they found evidences that humans were living off the
sea, and that they were broadening their diet from meat. They were also believed to
be intellectual for they knew and observed the faces of the moon so theyll know
when the perfect time to get the shellfishes. The people who lived in this cave were
known to have specialized tools and have some symbolisms that carries social
information. It is also stated that theres a possibility that these Homo sapiens and
Neanderthals encountered one another when they were travelling to another land. If
so, then we might have Neanderthal DNAs in our veins.
To confirm this, Svante and his team made a draft of the Neanderthal genes
and because of this; they were able to discover the fox p2 gene which is responsible
for language. The Neanderthals genes were similarly identical to ours which proves
that despite their mental limitations, they were able to speak.
What major characteristics have humans developed throughout the
process of evolution which set us apart from other species?
The major characteristics that humans developed throughout the process of
evolution are; bipedalism in which humans are able to walk upright on their own two
legs to travel, being able to cool down through sweating which is caused of the
absent of hair in our bodies except in our head and in our private parts, larger
brains that enables us to do critical thinking which is the main reason why we are
superior to other creatures, and lastly we have the capability to speak and
communicate to other people.
