MEDRHYTHMIA GUIDELINES

A. QUALIFICATIONS

The contest is open to all member schools of the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges
Student Network
An APMC member school may only be represented by one (1) chorale.
The group may not be the official group of their respective school, as long as the participants are
bona fide students of their respective schools at the time of the competition.
The group must have a name for identification purposes.
The group may be all male, all female, or mixed.
The group must have a minimum of eight (8) and a maximum of twenty (20) members.
Members of the group should be registered participants of the convention.
The choral may or may not be conducted by a conductor. The conductor may or may not be a
bona fide student of the respective school. If the conductor is a bona fide student of the
respective school, he/she should be a registered participant of the convention.

B. MUSIC
Each group will perform two (2) pieces; one (1) choice piece and one (1) contest piece. The
contest piece will be provided by the Executive Committee of the Organizers.
The chorale choice piece can be a song from any known Broadway musical.
The chorale contest piece will be One Day More from the musical Les Miserables.
Song pieces may be a single arrangement or a medley arrangement of at least two (2) songs.
All pieces must be performed entirely acapella, without the use of any instrument or
accompaniment. Clapping, slapping, snapping, stepping, and vocalizing (the act of giving voice
to) are allowed. Stomping is prohibited.
C. MECHANICS
The order of performances will be determined via drawing of lots done by one representative
from the group.

All members of the chorale group should be present on stage during the performance of both
the contest piece and choice piece.
The use of props will be upon the discretion of the group. There are no limitations in the used
materials, design and quantity. Pyrotechnics, sharp objects, or any material that could be
injurious to both the singers and the audience are strictly prohibited.
Only a maximum of three (3) propsmen per school (for MR participants) will be allowed to take
care and guard the props of the competing teams. Propsmen will be required to wear their
respective school shirts.
o Propsmen can help the singers during ingress and egress of the props during blackout.
Propsmen can also stay on stage, seen or unseen, during the performance but should
NOT be moving.
Finalizing props in any form (painting, applying glitters, glue gun application, carpentry work,
etc) will be prohibited inside the venue. Any school caught finalizing their props will be given
corresponding deductions in their final score.
Each group is given a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of fifteen (15) minutes to perform.
o Choir groups can enter the stage upon the utterance of the first word of the 1 minute
recorded spiel. This will also be the time that props can start ingress on stage.
o Performance time starts at the utterance of the first note of the teams performance.
o Time ends at the last note of the performance. Groups are encouraged to exit
immediately after the performance.
During the competition, the contest piece will be performed first, followed by the choice piece.
Changing of order is not allowed.
Choreography will be limited to movements of performers in place (e.g. movement of arms,
nodding of head, bending of knees). Change of blockings within the performance will NOT be
allowed except for soloists who need to be in specific positions on the stage. Block changes will
be allowed after every piece.
Conductors will NOT be allowed to take part in the performance in the form of singing or part of
the choreography.
Costumes may be made from chosen materials of the groups preference.
In the event that technical problems arise and affect the groups performance, participants are
allowed to repeat their entry.

D. CRITERIA FOR JUDGING


There will be a panel of three (3) judges.
Each judge will evaluate the performances based on the following criteria:

Intonation and Diction
Choral blend and balance
Rhythm accuracy
Execution of performance piece
Vocal tone and color
MUSICAL AND ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION

The final evaluation of the performances shall be done via a RANK SYSTEM. Each judge shall rank
the performances according to his/her overall rating with one (1) having the highest rank and so
on until all competing teams are ranked accordingly.
The team with the highest average ran (or the lowest numerical value of average rank) shall be
declared the winner of the competition.
In case of a tie, the average of the numerical ranks of the teams shall be used.
The team with the highest average rank shall be declared the winner of the competition.

E. PENALTIES
One official timekeeper will monitor the duration of the performances.
One percent (1%) will be deducted from the overall rating for every one (1) minute or a fraction
in excess of the allowed duration of performances.
Use of prohibited materials will merit a disqualification.
Participation of unregistered chorale members will merit a disqualification.
Penalties and sanctioning of a disqualification will be upon the discretion of the organizers.
F. PRIZES
All participating groups shall receive certificates of participation.
The following awards will be awarded:
o CHAMPION
o 1st Runner-up
o 2nd Runner-up
The following special prize will be awarded:
o BEST INTERPRETATION OF THE CONTEST PIECE awarded to the highest rated chorale
group for the contest piece based on average judges score
As a default method of computation, Best in Interpretation of the Contest Piece is to be
awarded based on a RANK SYSTEM similar to the main competition prizes.
G. ARBITRATION
The judging criteria are final
The judges decisions are final and irrevocable.

H. REQUIREMENTS
The following should be submitted in a single ZIP file (filename: MR2015_school name in
acronyms) to [email protected] on or before:

Choice piece for screening. Screening may be done by the organizers to ensure
that the music scores fit all the rules and mechanics and that NO TWO SCHOOLS
WILL PERFORM THE SAME MUSIC. Should there be any changes they will be
forwarded to the chorale groups thereafter for them to make the necessary
adjustments.

his/her Contact Number and email address.
October 24, 2015
A 15-second video introducing their chorale group in AVI format.
An at most 30 seconds recorded spiel introducing the choral groups
performance in MP3 format.
Filled-out registration form in PDF format.
