Project Report

The document summarizes an engineering student project to design an electromagnet. A team of three students - Akin Yavuz, Adnan Şimşek, and Burak Kiliç - designed and built an electromagnet under the supervision of Professor Mehmet Efe Özbek. The team first researched how electromagnets work and then conducted experiments to determine the best design and materials. Their electromagnet was able to attract 194 grams of metal in testing, demonstrating that it worked as intended.

SUMMARY
Our aim in this project is how to make elektromagnetic magnet.Firstly we learned
what is the elektromagnetic magnet and how to work,Then we have bought component which
are we use and we have done some experiment. Finally we have decide best way to make our
magnet.

INTRODUCTION
If the electric current passing through a wire where it forms a magnetic field.
Electromagnets rely on these basic rules. Using this basic principles; motors, solenoids, read
and write heads for hard drives, speakers, and many more things are done. It is useful to
examine the facts show is always a magnet magnetic properties before electromagnets
examination. The magnet has two poles, north and south. Opposite poles attract each other,
and the same poles repel each other. Most basically need a power supply such as a battery and
a wire for an electromangectic magnet operation. The battery generates electricity and the
electrons flow through the wire. Electrons flowing from the wire to form a magnetic field.
The magnetic field, a magnet can show the magnetic properties in the field as the line formed
around the magnet is called magnetic field lines generated in that area. There are three types of
magnetic materials existing substances in our universe which name is Diamagnetic,
Paramagnetic and Ferromagnetic. When the make electromagnetic magnet,
generally use ferromagnetic materials. This substance is affected vigorously by
the magnet. Iron, nickel, cobalt and alloys containing substances fall into this
group.Battery has two poles + and - . The electrons are collected at the negative pole and
they flows the negative pole to the positive pole if they find a way. This flow can be done
with a cable connection to be made between the two poles. It consists of small electric fields
on the cable. This small electric fields on the basis of electromagnetism.

METHODOLOGY
First of all, we have to have a laminated steel, copper wire and sheet metal for do
magnet. And than their size is very important for the good work. Also their quality must be
high. Because if your copper wire is small, copper wire could be warming. Therefore, your
magnet will able to too warming.
Magnets attract some metals such as iron, nickel, cobalt
You can see the materials of the magnet:

Figure.1.2

Figure.1.3

If you get the laminated steel as a perforated, you will not try to perforate it.And than you
have to combine a lot of laminated steel.Than you must wrap the copper wire around the
laminetad steel.Copper wire must be too close to each other for magnets performance.
Therefore, you should be careful. Otherwise, your magnet could not work. Therefore, nobody
want to be failure the project. Now we made a magnet. However. It have not already done. It
must to connected voltage for working. When it connected, it will be attarct the iron, nickel or
cobalt. Now, It is ready for competition.

You can see the experiment process:

First of all you hang magnet on the uspender. And than conneted voltage. Than give dc power
supply as on, magnet goes down and goes up.

Result and Discussion

Ohms law said that current is opposite ratio with resistor.

A wire resistance wire cross section depends on the length and wire material is made.
When wire section grows, resistance will be decreases so if there are big current, wire must be
thick.
We follow this rules and magnet is made by us.
In brief, we learned to make magnet.
We can say that our magnet is not perfect like everybodys else.
We can attract 194 gr marble in the experiment. I think it could be better. However, our
magnet is worked during the experiment and this is a good thing. Also we have been
successful.
We could observe our magnets weaknesses which is it could attract more marble.
Magnet was warm end of the experiment. This is very normal hence there are no problem.

CONCLUSION

To sum up, we have learned how to make electro magnet. Electomagnetic

magnet is proportional to the number of turns in the coil, the amount of current
flowing through the wire, with the number of battery and the battery voltage. In
addition to this, electromagnets used in many electronic means, electric bell,
computer-generated, high-speed trains, telephone headsets, telegraph, as well as
tools and structures.
