Week 9 Pacing Guide

This weekly packet outlines assignments for the week of October 24th-28th. Students are expected to read novels and complete comprehension assignments in English class. This packet is due- 11/1

English:
Read 30 minutes each day: a novel of your choice with the goal of completion. (When
finished complete an AR quiz if available)
Read: When Washington Crossed the Delaware
Complete: Think Critically
Read: In 1776
Complete: Comparing Texts
Complete: Wordly Wise pgs. 73-77 Lesson 7
Complete: Grammar Practice Book pgs. 27-30 Lesson 8
Optional Practice: Wordly Wise pgs. 78-81
Study: Spelling words from Wordly Wise pgs 71-72
Take: Spelling test at the end of the week and turn in on following Tuesday.
Math:
Monday:
1) Teach: 3.5 in Student Book using Teachers Edition
2) Guided Practice: Guided Practice pgs. 140-143 *optional- odds only (Guide
your student through this section. They are not meant to do this alone)
3) Independent Practice: Lets Practice pg.144 workbook pages 109-112
*optional- odds only. (Allow your student to do this section completely
independent. When completed, please grade. The answer sheet is attached
this week because this is review workbook pages from 4th grade.)
Wednesday:
1) Teach: Lesson 3.6 in Student Book using Teachers Edition
2) Guided Practice: Guided Practice pgs. 145-148 *optional- odds only (Guide
your student through this section. They are not meant to do this alone)
3) Independent Practice: Lets Practice pgs. 148-149 and workbook pages 113116 *optional- odds only. (Allow your student to do this section completely
independent. When completed, please grade. Use as an assessment, dont
be afraid to go back and re-teach. Re-Teach resources available on my
website.)
Friday:
IXL MATH: Identify where student is struggling when it comes to fractions. Go
onto IXL math and have them practice for minimum of 30 minutes in the areas
they need extra practice.
Science:
This week we are continuing in Physical Science and investigating matter.

Social Studies:
Continue using Social studies curriculum. Plan on completing a chapter a week. Please
let me know right away if you are still missing some curriculum.
Writing:
Together we will teach writing using the curriculum 6 Trait Writing. This curriculum is
25 weeks of daily mini lessons divided into 5 focused traits of writing: Ideas,
Organization, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Voice.
Tuesdays I will teach day 1
Wednesday you will teach day 2
Thursday I will teach day 3 and 4
Fridays student will complete a writing prompt at home that will go with the
weeks lesson, see day 4 on TE for writing prompt and directions.
In addition I will be working on one of the following essays each learning period:
personal narrative, opinion essay, or persuasive, Informative essay.
Please check your students homework folder for weekly writing assignments on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can access the Teachers edition to this curriculum on my
website under parent resources.
REMINDERS: Students first and last name in their handwriting, along with the date, and
grade must be on all assignments.
