Content outline
Lesson Opener/ set - I will commence by drawing some animals on the board and ask the
children what each animal is. Next, I will write the phrase my favorite animal is.. on the board. I
will ask the children to tell me their names and tell me their favorite animal one by one.
Explain- I will start by introducing the topic of endangered species. Today I wanted to talk about
the animals that we share this planet. Does anyone know what an endangered animal is? Its a
animal or plant that is in danger of disappearing forever. There are over 17,000 endangered
animals all over the world. Soon if we don't do anything to change it these beautiful creatures
will become extinct just like the dinosaurs. Do you know why the animals are dying out little by
little? Its us humans who are impacting their environment and using all the resources. Mainly
because their homes are being destroyed and they can no longer survive in their natural habits.
People are cutting down the trees in the rain forest and the ice is melting in the arctic.
Show/demonstrate- Its up to us to change our future and to help save this precious creatures and

their habitats. Next I will explain the term context clues to the students and tell them that you can
guess the meaning of some words according to the context. I will now show the video which is
an engaging video about endangered species and them to use context clues to understand the
main idea of the video.
Apply- Group activity- I will separate students into groups of three and write three questions on
the board. 1. what are endangered animals? 2. what can we do to help them ? 3. I will ask the
students to find the answers together. Then ask them to stand up individually and answer one of
the questions aloud.
Apply- Hands on activity- Now I would like to play a little game. Does everyone know how to
play bingo? I would like everyone to make their own bingo card from recycled paper. I will pass
out old magazine or newspaper so that the students can create the squares and write the
endangered animal names as they wish. I will call out the animal names until someone has bingo
and the winner will get a prize.
Closure - Then I will ask explain how it is that we can help save these animals and their habits.

Content outline
Lesson Opener/ set I will start by writing once upon a time on the board. I will ask the
students to read this and ask them if it reminds them of any story they have read.
Explain- I will explain to them that reading is very important and that they should practice
everyday. I will them explain to them that today we are read a very famous children book called
the three little pigs. I will ask if anyone has read it before. I will read the books (if I have puppets
or animal action figures I can use them). After the story, I will ask the children some questions.
For example what they thing the main idea of the story is. I want them to think about the five
W's. I will write the five W's on the board; what, why, when, where, who. I will explain to them
that they can find the main idea with answering some simple questions. I will present the 5 star
organizer worksheet on the projector and explain to them what they have to do.
Show/demonstrate- To properly explain the 5 W star organizer I will project an example on the
board. I will go through each 5 points and show them how to fill it out and give them a few
example of questions they can use. For example for the Who section they can write WHO I in the
story. This will a great way to show students how to find the most important information from

the text and create their own main idea or summary.

Closure - Then I will ask three volunteers to share their star to the class.

Content outline
Lesson Opener/ set As class begin I will be writing a vocabulary list of common misspelled
words on the board. I will go over the words with the children. I will emphasize on pronunciation
and tricky spelling and give a few examples on how you can remember.
Explain- I will ask them to write each word three times. Next I will ask them to take out their
journals because we are going to be doing a writing exercise. I will project a vocabulary list on
the board (which includes most of the common misspelled words). I will ask to think about their
best day ever. I will tell them to think a special day in their lives and why was it so great. It could
be a birthday/chistmas/or just a sunday at the park. I will explain that it has to be a full paragragh
(at least 5 sentences) and they have to use at least 10 of the words on the vocabulary list.
Show/demonstrate- I will tell them about my best day ever and read my journal entry out loud.
Everytime I used a word from the vocabulary list I would write it on the board. I will ask them to
start writing and give them about 15 -20 mins. After they are done, I tell them to underline the 10
vocabulary words in their journal entry.
Closure After their writing exercise I will turn on the smartboard and will thell them that we
are going to play a game. Its an interactive word search puzzle game that I found online. I have
created it with all the misspelled word and vocabulary words. I will play the game with the class.
