Planning Template for Create a Story

1. First show your child an example of a story that has already been created. Draw attention to the different
scenes or events that are portrayed on each page, also the words, animations and sounds that help tell the
story.
2. Support your child in deciding on the story that you are going to animate together (e.g. My best summer
day).
3. What are the main things that happen in the story (to begin with keep it simple by choosing 3-5 scenes or
events that can be drawn. Remember what is important here is that it is the childs story that is recorded, it
isnt a test, you can give them whatever help that they need to tell the story using their own words, pictures
choices and sounds.
4. Draw a sketch of each scene or event in the boxes below. To begin with this planning can be done with or for
the child the important thing is that it is their choice of story and their ideas about how to tell it in pictures.
5. Write any words that the child wants to include in the boxes to tell the story. These words can later be typed
on each page or recorded (If you have music files on your PC then background music is also an option and/or
sound effects).
6. For each scene or event decode on any animations that are needed and tick the appropriate box
7. Use this planning sheet to help you sequence the pages when you create the story on screen using the
2Simple software.
8. When the story is completed save the story and pass it on to your childs teacher. Your title for the file should
include the childs project name (for anonymity), the month and the year the story was completed (e.g. 1010
is October 2010) and their age in months. Separate each part of the title with an underline symbol (e.g.
Spiderman_0111_38 = a story written by Spiderman in January 2011 when he was 3 years and 2 months old).
