SYMBIOSIS CENTRE FOR DISTANCE LEARNING (SCDL)

Project Guidelines for Post Graduate Diploma in IT Management
Credits: 6

As a part of the curriculum of Post Graduate Diploma in IT Management (PGDITM) program,

students will carry out a Project. While developing the project, the students will follow certain
internal evaluation procedures of SCDL. A student should choose a technical or Techno-business
topic of his/her interest.
Understanding significance of Project Report
In order to acquire the right balance, learner should consider the aim behind making the good
project. It provides the opportunity for learner to demonstrate independence and originality, to
plan and organize the project work, and to put into practice some of the techniques learners
have been taught throughout the program.
Meaning of Project
A project can be defined as a temporary endeavor undertaken to achieve a particular aim or it
is a study of factual information for comprehending and applying the various concepts of the
course into practice. In simple words, a Project can be understood as mentioned under

It is a practice of verification or demonstration of concepts or hypotheses or process/es.

In fact, Project is a supplement to learning.
It is a technique of self-learning, of learning by doing. It has a practical value.
The purpose of the project is not to generalize but to study the situation with practical
orientation.

Project Objectives
This Project is made a part of the curriculum to allow a student to experience real-life situations
in order to substantiate their learnings. In addition, they are expected to learn new technologies
or methodologies or practices. A large part of the evaluation will depend on this. In addition, if
a student contributes in terms of an original solution or an idea or suggestions they will be
deemed valuable.
Project Submission
The project covers Introduction, Analysis and Design, Findings and Recommendations. At the end of
Semester IV, every learner has to submit the soft copy of the complete project online using Online Project

EV-GL-14

Submission Link available in Student Login. Only the soft copy of the Project documentation
along with the aspects mentioned in the guidelines should be submitted on line. Student should
not send hardcopy of the project to the SCDL. Learners should submit their Project Reports as
per the guidelines given by SCDL. Project Reports which are not as per the guidelines will not
qualify for evaluation.
The standard font type Times new Roman with 12 points font size should be used by the learners
for preparing the Project Report. Figures and tables should be presented immediately following
their first mention in the text. All the figures and tables must be serially numbered, captioned,
and cited in the body text. Equations should form separate lines with appropriate paragraph
separation above and below the equation line, with equation numbers aligned to the right.
Learners have to submit the project based on the given below chapters/aspects. Project will be
assessed on the basis of following:
Chapter 1: Introduction
This chapter will give an overview of the project. It shall give an introduction to the fundamentals,
present scenario of various technologies/methodologies concerned with the theme of project
purpose, scope and objectives of the project, and background of the study. It will also include
the research problem (technical or Techno-business) under study and also clearly explain the
methodology of the conduct of research. It shall comprise of:
- Objectives
- Scope and Background
- User Requirements (If any)
- Unresolved Issues (If any)
The length of this chapter should be between 3-5 pages.

Chapter 2 Analysis of Work Done and Design

This is a very crucial chapter in the project since it explains the work done by the researcher and
the analysis justifying the work. It will explain in detail in a step-by-step manner the conduct of
the project and the technology/tools used, stages of development, use of special software tools
(if any), use of statistical techniques (if any), various tests of validity of the approaches used and
data analysis.

Due importance shall be given to procedures adopted and techniques developed,

methodologies developed and adopted.
While important derivations/formulae/codes/syntaxes/templates/models/flow-charts should
normally be presented as a part of this chapter.
This section shall comprise of the planning charts, use case diagram, sequence, class diagrams and table
design etc. as mentioned below:

Planning Chart (Fishbone Diagram/Gantt chart)

Use Case Diagram (if any)

Activity Diagram

Sequence Diagram

Class Diagram (if any)

ER Diagram (if any)

Data Dictionary (if any)

Table Design (if any)

Report Layouts (Validations, if any)

Test Procedures and Implementation

Recommended number of pages for this chapter is 10-20 pages.

Chapter 3 Learning experiences on Business / Technology

This chapter will explain the important lesson learnt and experiences imbibed from the project.
It will bring the behavioral aspects of learning; it will also bridge the gap between theory and
practice of the chosen technology or business concept for research. Moreover, it will also
highlight the situational and crisis management scenarios experienced during the project period.
Recommended number of pages for this chapter is 3-5 pages.

Chapter 4 - Conclusion
This chapter shall include a thorough evaluation of the investigation carried out and bring out the
findings, suggestion and contributions from the study. The discussion shall logically lead to
inferences and conclusions as well as scope for future research as much as possible.
Conclusions derived from the logical analysis shall be presented and clearly enumerated, each
point stated separately.
Recommended number of pages for this chapter is 2-4 pages.
