Method Statement For Installation of Firefighting Pump Set
Method Statement For Installation of Firefighting Pump Set
Prior to start of installation it shall be ensured that the shop drawings including
coordination drawings of the respective area are approved.
It shall be ensured that the area is released by HEE to proceed with MEP installations.
It shall be ensured that the Fire Fighting Pumps are as per the approved material
submittal and have been inspected & approved.
Ensure that the pump foundation is according to manufacturers recommendations and NFPA
standards.
After inspecting the work area / foundation and esuring that it is totally ready for
installation, the required pumps shall be moved to the place of installation.
Proper marking shall be done on the foundation for drilling & fixing the required fasteners to
fix the pumps in position.
The pumps shall then be placed on the foundation & shall be fitted in position directly on the
foundation.
It shall be ensured that the fastners are tight enough to hold the pump in position
during operation.
After installation and approval of the pumps the Fire Fighting piping system shall
be connected to the inlet & outlet of the pumps.
It shall be ensured that the piping is properly supported using hanger supports.
Flexible connectors shall be installed at pump inlet & outlet to permit movement due to
vibrations, expansion & contraction.
The pump set shall be mounted on a common base plate of steel and directly connected to
motor through a flexible coupling. The base shall conform to NFPA standards.
It shall be ensured that the pumps & motors are properly installed with flexible
connectors without pipe strain transmitted to the pump casing.
A flow meter shall be installed to measure and indicate flow through the piping system.
The meter shall be UL listed / FM approved & the location shall be shown on the shop
drawings.
The pump control panel shall be installed as per approved shop drawings &
manufacturers recommendations.
The required power & control wiring shall be carried out as per specification &
manufacturers recommendations.
While installation of cable trays & trunking it shall be ensured that the routing does not
hinder the access to various parts of the pump.
Valve tags and sign identifications shall be provided as per requirements.
The alarm control valve drain for the sprinkler system shall be connected to the sump
pit/sewage, pit further the wet riser drain shall also be connected to the sump pit/swage pit.
This method applies for startup of pumps only not for a complete firefighting system which
requires a separate detailed procedure for commissioning.

5. Slowly open the discharge valve of the low zone header & record
the discharge head for 50% of the design flow. The discharge valve
shall be slowly opened & the flow through the piping shall be checked
in the flow meter for every rotation of the valve spindle until the flow
is 50% of the design.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURES FOR HOSE REEL CABINETS
Prior to start of installation it shall be ensured that the shop drawings including
coordination drawings of the respective area are approved. The locations of the fire cabinets
shall also be shown on the Architectural drawings.
It shall be ensured that the area is released to proceed with MEP installations.
It shall be ensured that the Fire Hose Cabinets, Hose Reels & extinguishers are as per
the approved material submittal & have been inspected & approved.
INSTALLATION OF SURFACE MOUNTED FIRE HOSE CABINETS
Prior to start of installation it shall be ensured that the wall has been painted & released to
proceed with the installation.
The location of the fire hose cabinet shall be marked as per the approved shop drawings.
The height of installation of the cabinets shall be in line with the civil defense
approved drawing.
The Fire hose cabinets shall be installed in place using four 10mm approved anchors & bolts,
ensuring the door will open 180 deg without blocking any valves.
INSTALLATION OF HOSE RACK FOR SURFACE MOUNTED CABINETS
The Fire Hose rack shall be fixed inside the cabinet through a landing valve supplied with the
hose rack.
The piping connection to the hose rack landing valve shall be as per civil defense
approved approved shop drawings, pipe penetrations to be properly sealed.
Labelling & identification shall be provided to the equipment in English & Arabic.
INSTALLATION OF HOSE REEL FOR SURFACE MOUNTED CABINETS
The Hose reel shall be installed inside the fire cabinet utilizing the existing brackets in
the cabinet. Hose reel shall open fully & easily in all directions by just pulling the hose
nozzle without even touching the reel.
The piping connection to the hose reel shall be as per civil defense approved shop drawings.
Commissioning Procedure for Fire Hose Rack & Fire Hose Reel
1. Ensure that all the pre-commissioning checks are carried out successfully.
2. Open the supervisory isolation valve for the fire hose cabinet & allow the
water to flow into landing valve & hose reel.
Hose Reel
1. Pull out the hose from the hose reel to a length of approximately 3 meters
& ensure that the automatic valve opens & the fire alarm signal is
generated.
2. Ensure that the complete length of hose will open in all directions only by
pulling the nozzle without even touching the hose reel.
3. Adjust the nozzle to set the required throw / flow of water.
4. Check for any leakage in the hose reel connections.
5. Check the pressure in the PRV down stream which should be 65 psi.
Hose Rack
1. Pull the hose from the hose rack.
2. Open the landing valve & check the water flow from the nozzle.
3. Check if the fire alarm signal is generated.
4. Check for any leakage in the hose connection / pipe joints.
