1. Describe the three main features of terrestrial animals.
They breathe with lungs.
They have sharp sense of hearing or smell to search for food and
enemies.
They have legs to move. Snakes crawl.
2. Give three examples each of wild and domestic land animals.
Wild Land animals: Lion, Tiger, Bear
Domestic Land animals: Cow, Goat, Dog
3. What are the adaptations present in the polar bear?

It has a dense layer of fur to protect from cold


Under the skin, it has a thick layer of fat called blubber. It is used to
keep its body warm and also as a source of energy during winter.

4. Why does the skin of aquatic animals not get affected in water?
The body of aquatic animals are adapted to stay under water
Eg: Fish. Its body is covered with water proof scales which protects
its skin from water.
5. Write the adaptations present in arboreal animals.
They have strong arms and legs to climb on trees.
They have strong claws to hold on to branches.
6. Name a special feature of the spider monkey that helps it hold on
to the branches of trees.
Spider monkey has a long tail
The tail is used to hold on to the branches of trees as a fifth limb.

7. Discuss the features of a bat that help it to fly.


Bats have wings made of thin layers of skin.
These are stretched across the arms and fingers and help them to
fly.

8. Define the term camouflage.


The ability of some animals to blend with their surroundings is called
camouflage.
Eg: polar bear, stick insect, chameleon.
9. How do the polar bear and stick insect camouflage themselves?
Polar bear has white fur. It helps to hide in the white snow.
Stick insect looks almost like a twig. It helps to hide in trees and
plants.

What is migration? How does it help some animals in dealing
with extremely cold weather?
The movement of animals from one place to another for feeding,
breeding or to escape from harsh weather conditions is called
migration.
Animals living in very cold weather find it difficult to survive in
winter. So they move and travel to warmer places for food.
Eg: Siberian cranes travel from Siberia to India during winter

What are endangered animals?
Animals that are in the danger of becoming extinct are called
endangered animals
Eg: Tiger, Polar bear, Giant Panda

Why is the population of tigers decreasing every year?
The tigers are hunted and killed for their skin.
So the population of tigers decrease every year.
