In Unit1, 2 &3.: ON OFF

This document contains a class test for a 5th semester electrical and electronics engineering course on linear integrated circuits and applications. The test contains 3 questions with multiple parts each. Question 1 covers 555 timer circuits, IC voltage regulators, and duty cycle. Question 2 covers transistor transition times, fixed bias binary circuits, and maximum reverse saturation currents. Question 3 covers stable states, current sweep generators, Schmitt trigger design, monostable multivibrator waveforms, clamping circuit theorems, and calculating component values for a 500 microsecond monostable pulse.

5 SEMESTER, SESSION 2013-14

LINEAR INTEGRATED CIRCUITS & APPLICATIONS
Max Marks: 40
Times: 2Hours

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Note: - Part (a) is compulsory of each unit. Attempt any two from remaining three parts
in Unit1, 2 &3.

Q.1 (a) Why normally control terminal of 555 Timer is connected to ground through
0.01F by pass capacitor?
(2)
(b) List the important features of IC regulator. Draw the functional diagram of
IC 723 regulator and explain the function of each block.
(6)
(c) Describe a square wave generator circuit using 555 timer. Derive the
expression for TON and TOFF of the output waveform. Show that it is
impossible to have a duty cycle of 50% or less in such configuration. Suggest
a modify circuit that will allow you to obtain adjustable duty rectangular
wave.
(6)
(d) Explain how adjustable regulator IC works. Derive the expression for the
output voltage for LM 317 adjustable voltage regulator.

(i) hFE(min) and stable state voltages and currents
(ii) Maximum reverse saturation currents .

Q.3 (a) What do you mean by Stable State?

(6)

UTP= 8V, LTP= 5V, VCC = 15 V, IC (sat) = 2 mA, hFE(min)=25. (6)
