Hunter Fenters wrote a paper exploring how an ocean policy on fishing can help fish populations and reproduction. The annotated bibliography includes three sources that discuss overfishing and its negative impacts, including rapid depletion of fish species. One source notes that fishing companies are catching fish faster than the populations can replenish. A second source explains that the United States needs regulations to prevent overexploitation of fishing resources. The third source argues that commercial fishing companies' use of small mesh nets that catch juvenile fish is a major cause of depleted fish populations.

Essential Question: How can an ocean policy on fishing help the population and the reproduction
of the fish.
Working Thesis: An ocean policy on fishing can help the population and the reproduction of the
fish.
Refined Thesis: With a policy on overfishing, the population of fish may be saved from the rapid
depletion of their species.
Annotated Bibliography
Driscoll, Sally, and Tom Warhol. "Overfishing: An Overview." Points Of View: Overfishing
(2016): 1. Points of View Reference Center. Web. 1 Sept. 2016.
This article is about how companies and individuals are fishing too much and could
potentially hurt the population of the fish. Companies that include conservationists are coming
together to help keep a sustainable fishing experience for moderate income with the final
payment to the fisherman. With companies fishing at levels such as they are today, the fish do
not have enough time to repopulate before they are being caught and processed again.
Conservationists and individuals such as myself are trying to help the repopulation of fish, with
the repopulation of flounder we as a community could help them strive again in their natural
habitats. This article is relevant to the research because with the flounder population depleting
completely, overfishing in the ocean catches flounder too, with flounder being part of the
overfishing problem, they are almost on their last limb of support.

Farrell, Courtney, and Tom Warhol. "Ocean Policy: An Overview." Points Of View: Ocean
Policy (2016): 1. Points of View Reference Center. Web. 1 Sept. 2016.
This article is about how the united states community needs to come together to help
somewhat regulate the resources available to the public as a nation. Some fishing companies are
becoming overexploited, they are using the resources they have to fish so much that certain
species of fish are on the brink of extinction. With other issues at hand with our government,
efforts will soon to be made with our marine ecosystems to help fish populations. This article is
relevant to the research because it shows that companies are in fact fishing so much that species
are going extinct and certain efforts are being made to help stop the potential permanent decline
of all fish species.

Gills, Peter, and David C. Morley. "Point: Overfishing Has Severely Depleted Fish Populations."
Points Of View: Overfishing (2016): 2. Points of View Reference Center. Web. 1 Sept.
2016.
Commercial fishing companies are objecting to the overfishing dilemma. With said
companies catching fewer and fewer fish, they begin to look at their equipment with the smaller
mesh. The small mesh they use for their fishing has small holes in it to ensure that smaller fish
can be caught as well as bigger fish. With technology being the biggest cause of the depletion of
fish species, companies cannot fish at these levels without consequences. This article is relevant
to the research because it states all of factors of overfishing. This article shows how companies
use smaller than usual to catch more fish causing damage to the species of fish.
