Task 2 Week 2

The document discusses a mathematics classroom that was visited where various manipulatives were observed being used, including blocks for place value, money for multiples of 10, 100 and 1000, and small circular disks for making arrays. The MST prepares materials in plastic bags or boxes for each group before lessons. She plans lessons to support explanations and activities using manipulatives. While time is limited, she models use of manipulatives and ensures students understand before having them work independently in groups.

Week 2. Task 2
" Classroom Manipulatives"

Identify models and manipulatives that are

available to use in a mathematics classroom
that you visit.
o Did you see them being used?

Blocks Ten Base, money and small circular

disks.
o If so, what models and manipulatives
were used?

My MST used blocks ten base for place value.

Money for multiples of 10, 100, 1000.

Small circular disks for making arrays.

Ask your MST about how she organizes

her class when she uses manipulatives.

She planed her lesson plan and provide

manipulatives to support her explanation
a lesson and for activities too before
beginning of the class to easy deliver math explanation in
clearly. In addition, she organizes her class in 4 groups and
provides them enough numbers of her manipulatives in plastic
bags or boxes that they needed for activities.
o Does she write her lessons differently?

Sometimes, she follows her lesson plan and if she sees that
the lesson need using manipulatives she make it for whole
class as warm up or prepared for students as activity in once
then use the text book.
o Does she use more or less time for the activities?

Actually, the teacher rarely applies activities in her class

because of the time limited.

manipulatives?

First she given them her instructions of how they will use the
manipulatives in activity time and ensured that every student
are listing to her with understanding also she model using the
