The unfairness of immigration laws

America used to be the land of freedom, but is it anymore? Many immigrants come to America
with hopes of a better life, and find that the American Dream means more than just that, it means
hard work and dedication. Although most immigrants, who live in America, work hard and keep
a low profile kind of life, theyre still being discriminated against and mistreated. I want people
to be aware of the way immigration laws are being abused, and in some cases, not even applied if
it benefits the immigrant in any way.
I.C.E. (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is an enforcement agency that abuses its power,
or better said, the men (officers) abuse the laws, and their authority. This is something that has
been going on for many years, and it seems to be getting worse. Many illegal immigrants who
are awaiting trials or deportation at an immigration jail, are suffering not only physically, but
also emotionally.

There are many incidents that let us have a closer look at the situation undocumented immigrants
face on a daily basis. There is an article published by KSL news that states Federal immigration
authorities say a 38-year-old Mexican man awaiting deportation died in their custody this past
weekend. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a news release Monday that
Santiago Sierra-Sanchez was found unresponsive Saturday morning in the Utah County jail's

medical unit. (by Associated Press)


Another article states ICE lied to get inside immigrants homes during raids.
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers tricked several people in Atlanta into
opening their doors so they could enter without a search warrant and detained people slate
for deportation in a series of controversial raids earlier this month, immigrants and
lawyers told The Huffington Post.
Los Angeles Times also showed an article which titles Dont open the door, immigrants
are warned as family deportation roundup continues, more than demonstrators protest at
the White House to demand President Obama halt deportations. (Los Angeles Times).

Its not surprising with the new President Elected Donald Trump, that any sort of
security undocumented immigrants had, is beyond gone now. The amount of discrimination
cases have increased since Donald Trump joined the Presidential campaign, it is a shame, and its
painful to see families worried they might not see their loved ones again. I completely

understand those who entered illegally and have felonies need to be deported, but unfortunately
this is not what really happens, some people who have no preview criminal records or current
ones, are thrown in the same category as those who are criminals, sometimes even sharing the
same immigrations jail cell, many family members whose loved ones are in this situation want to
be heard but nobody listens. When is this unfairness going to end? When are the ICE officers
who take their authority beyond reasonable be stopped? Im hoping to make people aware of this
issue and perhaps those who are close minded to the issue would look at it as a mind opener and
understand this illegal aliens are somebodys mother, father, brother, sister, child
No State shall deprive any person of life, liberty or property, without due process of law;
nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. An
undocumented immigrant is definitely a person (Ilona Bray).
