1 How to write a simple sentence?

You can start with a basic sentence sentence.


• A Basic Sentence Pattern is: (Struktur asas ayat Bahasa Inggeris)

Subject + Verb + Object

Example:

Navind + drinks + tea = Navind drinks tea.

Zulia + writes + a letter = Zulia writes a letter.

The student + buys + two books = The student buys two books.

The cat + climbs + the tree = The cat climbs the tree.

My car + falls + into the drain = My car falls into the drain.

The building + stands + in the heart of KL = The building stands in the heart of KL.

Two girls + sit + on the sofa = Two girls sit on the sofa

The telepnone + rings + loudly = The telephone rings loudly

My neighbour + calls + my mother = My neighbour calls my mother.

• The summarsation is

Zulia writes a letter
The student buys two books
The cat climbs the tree
My car falls into the drain
The building stands in the heart of KL

• Be it the present or the past tense , the pattern is still the same .

Example:

a. The telephone rings.


The telephone rang just now.

b. The car falls into the drain.


The car fell into the drain yesterday.

c. My neighbour calls my mother.


My neighbour called my mother last night.

d. Zulia writes the letter to her friend.
Zulia wrote the letter to her friend last week.

e. Ned drinks a glass of juice.


Ned drank a glass of juice .

NOTE: A basic sentence pattern must have at least a subject


and a verb. (Struktur ayat asas mempunyai subjek dan verb)

Exercise 1

Form fourteen simple sentences from the table by combining the subjects and the
verbs.
