BRAND

MANAGEMENT IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY." Annals of the University

of Oradea.

Fascicle of Textiles, Leatherwork XV.2 (2014): 189-94. Print.

This article was about the different characteristics of branding and brand
management throughout the fashion industry. Branding is a huge part of
companies and their overall message to consumers. Consumers find value in
brands by their guarantees, promises, quality, recognition and commitment.
Companies have to use brand management to grow and develop because creating
a brand is one of the hardest challenges a company can face and that is why it can
take years to be preferred well-known. Once a brand is well known consumers
can depend on that brand and stay loyal.

This article focuses on all the main details of my dream career path as a fashion
designer. It really goes into detail on what companies have to face to even be
recognized in the fashion industry. This really gave me a bigger insight on
everything that goes on and all the challenges companies face. If I want to create
my own apparel line then I am going to have to make a good name for myself and
know that it will take time. After reading this I have a better understanding on

why it takes companies so long to create a valued brand and for consumers to
trust the brand.

Takes?" Fashion Design

Careers: Do You Have What It Takes? N.p., 2012. Web.

3 Nov. 2016.

This video was about informing the viewer if they are ready for a career in
fashion design. These fashion designers create clothing for photo-shoots,
runways, and custom pieces for customers. Some work for large companies while
others start their own brand. While much of what they learn is hands on and on
the job training, they start with inspiration. By being a fashion designer you have
to be open-minded and flexible to constant changes. You have to take risk and
produce products constantly so be successful by putting yourself out there. The
main thing is creativity and with this comes good communication and being able

Perdue 3
to convey your thoughts clearly. This helps with designing and assigning roles for
different pieces of the product.

This video helped give me an insight on fashion design and everything it involves.
It helped me to understand all the characteristics I would need to be a fashion
designer. When talking about constant changes I could relate because we always
have new trends and styles evolving. Without fashion designers flexibility and
open-mindedness change would be hard to achieve. I feel by watching this video I
became more connected to the fashion design industry.

The producer for the video is Learning ZoneXpress, its credible because its
founder Melanie Nelson has worked in the education market for 27 years. She
was a finalist for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Award in 2007
and 2012. This publisher, Films Media Group is credible because its an Infobase
Learning Company. Its the premier source of high-quality academic streaming
video and DVDs for libraries, and schools such as colleges.

2016.

This was a video focused on developing an apparel line and went through the
steps/process of doing so. The apparel industry has transformed to people having

more technicial backgrounds because a large portion of clothing is now designed
on computers. When introducing and modifying a line of fashion, creative ideas
and technical skills are needed. Everything starts with a concept and transformed
into a prototype. Once you have a prototype, you finalize the design, pick a
pattern, and order the material and produce. During production quality control
specialists inspect products. Some apparel lines use their samples to write orders
to wholesalers/retailers before they begin manufacturing.

This video went into great detail of all the steps taken to design an apparel line
from a concept to production. It showed me that fashion design involves many
steps to achieve a final product. This helps me see all the background information
I need to become a successful designed in todays changing society. It also
reminded me that I have to please my costumers and to look at them for ideas.
Another important key for success in my career is to track past sales so I can see
what sales and what doesnt. This will help me to create new products that will be
appealing to customers.

The Films Media Group published this video in New York, NY. Its credible
because they have exclusive educational videos from the worlds most recognized
producers. They serve institutions with the deepest and broadest range of content

Btywrks. "Fashion Designer Michael Kors Interview." YouTube. YouTube, 24 Apr.
2012. Web. 05 Nov. 2016.

In the interview with fashion designer Michael Kors, he stated that what he does
is simple but interesting and that is why a range of different people wears his
clothes. He looks for inspiration everyday in living things and whatever he is
working on in that moment is his favorite thing. In his fashion, he likes it to be a
blend of things. He said clients mix different prices all through their closet. He
went into detail that runways are elaborate for yarn, fabrics and new ideas. When
creating, he said the color and fabrics often determine where the shape will go. He
likes to create balance, as he believes its the secret of good fashion. During his 30
years of experience, he has learned to stay true to himself and to try new things in
order to grow.

This interview helped me to see what I can create and how successful I can be if I
try new things while staying true to myself. It showed me what years of
experience can do and taught me to not be scared to create simple or elaborate
things. I also learned that you dont have to have a whole concept fully imagined
before you begin to create it. Like Michael Kors, he stated that color and fabric
often lead to shape. I also like his way of getting inspiration from living things
rather that art museums, or non-human things.

This is a credible interview because Michael Kors is the honorary chairman and
chief creative officer for his company. He is considered a top fashion designer

with over 30 years experience. He has many awards and achievements. In 1999 he
won the CFDA award for womenswear designer of the year and in 2003 the
CFDA award for menswear designer of the year. Many celebrities have worn Kors
designs.

Reese, Susan. "Fashioning a Successful Career - An Education in Fashion Design

Is an

Education in Style." Techniques. 78.7 (2003): 27-33. Print.

This article by Susan Reese was about fashioning a successful career. The Center
for Career and Technology Education (CCTE) is a program for students to explore
careers in fashion design. Its a two-year high school program for juniors and
seniors that emphasize design, merchandising, promotion and manufacturing. The
students start by learning the patterns and the basic skills of a sewing machine. It
helps give them hands on experience of what its like to start with a concept and
have a final product. The computer is a big part of what the students do as they
learn skills for apparel design programs. This program leads students with talents
to bigger opportunities where they could go to Hollywood, Milan, New York or
Paris.

This article led into what the students did after the program. Some students are
now buyers for major department chains, I can relate to this on a smaller level
because my mom owns a boutique and I help her as a buyer. I think its amazing
that some of these students talents lead them to well known fashion places like
New York. I would love to attend New York Fashion Week because I feel it would

Perdue 7
be an eye-opening experience into the fashion industry as a fashion designer. I
think its amazing that these students are achieving these goals as such young age.

This article is credible because the publisher Association for Career and
Technical Education which is the largest national education association. Its
located in Alexandria, VA and is dedicated to the advancement of education. It
prepares adults as well as youth for careers. Their mission is to have a
competitive workforce by providing educational leadership.
