Aims: introduce students to the topic of television programmes; learn how to write a TV show review.
Assumed knowledge: the majority of the students have already passed an intermediate language exam B1 level.
Anticipated problems: students may already know most of the topic due to the tech culture ask them about their
favourite shows if we finish too soon. New words vocabulary.

The students have to pair the 18 TV programme


names with their definition. When they are done, we
check the answers and they get the correct pairings on
handouts afterwards.

The teacher presents the new words in context with


pictures and sentences, the students write the words
and their translation down in their vocabulary.
The students read the text about Coronation Street on
page 104 of the textbook and answer the questions
below.

The teacher assigns a paragraph to each student, they


read the text again, then the teacher selects one
student for each paragraph and they provide a
summary of one or two short sentences.
The students are given some time to complete the
tasks on page 105 of the textbook (3 / A, B, C). When
they are finished, the teacher checks their answers.

The teacher and the students discuss how to write a


TV programme review based on the example
(Coronation Street) and the suggestions on page 105.

The students write a review of their favourite TV


programme as a homework assignment for the next
lesson.
The students are asked to pair up and are given a
short dialogue. The pairs have to choose an acting
style from the following list and enact the dialogue
according to their choice.
Styles: romantic, horror, drama, thriller, comedy, scifi, fantasy, action, soap opera, kids show, wildlife
show.
