Carlson Geology: Geologic Modeling Basics: Carlson User Training Conference 2009
This two-day training conference from Carlson Geology covers basic geologic modeling techniques using Carlson software. Over the two days, topics that will be covered include entering and importing drillhole data, calculating reserves from drillholes for both underground and surface mines, creating isopach maps and fence diagrams, and basic fault modeling. Attendees will learn how to structure drillhole data, review drillhole data options, correlate drillhole data, and generate pre-calculated grid files that can be used for reserve calculations and other graphical outputs.

Carlson Geology: Geologic Modeling Basics
April 5th and 6th, 2009 Lexington, Kentucky By Bruce Carlson, PE President, Carlson Software This class covers entering and importing drillhole data, including the distinct forms of strata only and strata-bed formats. Although drillhole data may be stored to an external file, it is recommended that storage to the drillhole symbol itself be used (default). Drillhole data must be correct, so commands to find out-of-order strata and out-of-range attribute data are discussed. Simple underground mine reserves will be calculated. In addition, outcrops, isopach maps and pre-calculated grid file models will be presented, leading to surface mine reserves. Excel output using the Report Formatter will be discussed. Additional graphical output will include fence diagrams, block diagrams and drillhole plotting. Simple faulting will also be covered. 1. Getting Started: Define Drillhole, Entering Drillholes and Importing Drillholes 2. Drillholes with Strata (Layer-Cake Geology), Define StrataRawls1.dwg 3. Drillholes with Beds and Lithologies (Strata within Beds)the import example
4. Drillhole Correlation: Rename Bed B for 410-63, then correlate B in 410-61 to A
Drillhole Data Storage and Review Options Data in the drillhole versus in external files Drawing and labeling Geologic Columns Drillhole Data Sheet Drillhole Data Validation Drillhole Parameter Compliance Isopach Maps from Drillholes (isopach map.dwg) Use Auto setting, starting color 10, color interval 10.
