Mobikwik Wallet
Mobikwik Wallet
MobiKwik is a mobile wallet and online payment system where a user can store money
in an online "wallet" to make mobile and DTH recharge, pay utility bills, and shop at
listed merchants. The MobiKwik wallet has to be loaded with money once before it can
be used across functions.[3][4] MobiKwik provides users the option to add money using
their debit or credit card, net banking, and cash pay, a doorstep cash collection service.
MobiKwik wallet is a semi closed wallet authorized by Reserve Bank of India.
MobiKwik was founded by Bipin Preet Singh and Upasana Taku in 2009. [2] Over the
years, MobiKwik extended their service on mobile apps. [6][7]
They tied up with various online merchants such as eBay India, BookMyShow, Dominos
India and ShopClues to provide accessibility of their wallet as a payment option on ecommerce sites.[8][9] Moreover, Mobikwik also introduced the feature of sending and
receiving money via MobiKwik mobile app.[10][11] Mobikwik raised under $5 million in its
Series A funding from an unnamed US-based VC firm in 2013 and is expected to get
another $30 million in the coming year.[12]
On November 28, 2016 MobiKwik launched its MobiKwik Lite app aimed at users in poor
connectivity regions.[13]
Business model[edit]
A user has to add money once to MobiKwik wallet and can then use it multiple times
across functions, services, and service providers. Storing money in MobiKwik wallet
reduces the risk of exposing card details or bank account details at multiple merchants
when shopping online.[8]
Achievements[edit]
MobiKwik partnered with PVR to enable payments for Movie Tickets using
MobiKwik wallet.[14]
Awards[edit]
In 2014, MobiKwik won the mBillionth Award South Asia in the category of Mobile
Business.[17]

MobiKwik, an Indian digital payments company has added a new feature for offline payments
called Bubble Pin.
The feature enables users to make wallet transactions at stores where there is low or no
connectivity to data networks. MobiKwik has announced that Bubble Pin will be available to
25,000 stores in the coming months.
Bubble Pin generates a PIN, a combination of letters and numbers, which can be shared with the
store merchant in case low connectivity. The PIN is generated on the MobiKwik app offline itself
and is valid only for 60 seconds and beyond that, a user can generate another PIN. The merchant
then enters the PIN and the bill amount into a software.
Once the user is back in areas of better connectivity, the payment will be deducted from the wallet.
However, store merchants will have to ensure that the store is connected to the Internet to enter
the bill amount and process the payment and it cannot process the payment offline.
eeping with its vision to grow the adoption of digital payments for offline
payments, MobiKwik, the leading fintech player in India, trusted by over 32
million users has launched one-step offline payments with Bubble Pin.
This pin can be generated on the MobiKwik app by clicking on 'Pay at store'
and is valid for 60 seconds. To make a payment, all a user needs to do is
share this pin with the merchant. The pin is a combination of numbers and
alphabets. Bubble pin also makes the transaction more secure as no phone
number is required to be shared. Soon, users can use this functionality in
over 25000 offline stores, pan India.

"With this feature, we are offering the scope of making digital payments to users
with slow data connections. Additionally, payment with MobiKwik is now possible
at basements, parking lots and even in a flying airline, where the data network
reception is not available or is intermittent," said Chief Operating Officer at
MobiKwik, Mrinal Sinha.
"With an aim to make payments with MobiKwik ubiquitous, we are focusing on
the expansion of our offline payments network and such initiatives shall help us
convert cash users into e-cash users," added Mrinal.
With India gradually moving towards a cashless economy, MobiKwik aims to
eliminate all possible glitches that may arise in the process of making a digital
payment. Bubble Pin is the first step towards enabling users to go completely
cashless even at places with sporadic data reception.
